Lady Vols Recruiting Info

Definitely time to move on. All that talk of deals and conditions for little sister and whatever else may or may not have been going on didn't sit well with me. I only want players who want to be here and do things the right way.

I've followed the Lady Vols program for many years and the experience players get there before, during, and AFTER they graduate is second to no other program.

Maybe she pulls the Tennessee hat from under the table. LOL. I doubt it. Wished we could've signed A forward this class but Dunbar and Jones' improvements have me optimistic.

It is still not good that we wiffed on a big post two years in a row. Remember that next year we will be down to 10 players unless we go the JC route. It would have been nice to even get one stretch 4. Getting a good 4 star with upsides would have been great. This is not the recruiting program it was in the past and we cannot live on hopes but on reality.
Maybe this is a fluke but major programs seldom go nil during a recruiting year.

All that talk of deals and conditions for little sister and whatever else may or may not have been going on ... I only want players who ... do things the right way.

All that talk was just talk. I have seen no written evidence from the athletic department or the players involved to substantiate these claims. One person mis-states the situation and twenty others are ready to repeat it as fact.

There is nothing unethical or against the rules for two players, whether related or not, to want to attend a school as a package deal. It is not blackmail! Either the coach wants them both or she doesn't. Saying no thank you does not make a coach a saint or holier than thou. It is just a situation that is not a good fit for both parties.

There is no evidence that the McCoys asked for a such a package deal from Holly. Because McCoy did not want to attend Tennessee, people insist there must be evil at play. There are a hundred valid reasons why recruits choose other schools.

Unless the staff pulls a decent/good Juco big out of a hat, this will be a Warlick/staff failure--and a pretty big one, IMO. You can't go two years without getting a power foward/center. It's not a failure to get one of the top prospects; the failure is not getting a couple of players who can provide quality depth--and don't tell me they are not out there. There are scores of colleges, and most of them will have decent bigs of varying quality next year. If you have a position of genuine need, the first thing you do is shake the bushes and get SOMEBODY who can give you quality minutes in a pinch--a 3 star, if necessary. Secure somebody, and then stay after the top prospects. If you don't get one of them, you've still got a 3 star, say, who can provide depth. You can't just go after 4 or 5 stars and strike out. Thus far, and it's getting very late, the staff hasn't done that. No commitments? It is unheard of.

They definitely need a 6'3+ JUCO player to come in and spell Russell. Otherwise, who are her backups? Jasmine Jones? Kortney Dunbar? Neither player has the size to successfully defend the post.

While I agree with your concern for their lack of a true low post backup, I don't think Tennessee is the only one who whiffed. Come next year, UConn will only have Butler as a true low post player, with the only other player taller than 6'2 being the Ann Strother-esque Katie Samuelson.

Whatever the reason, she didn't pick Tennessee and I haven't lost any sleep before and won't lose any sleep after. I wish her well, but I think it's her loss. I'm not worried about not getting a post or a player from 2016. 10 players is enough to have on a team. We shouldn't really be going deeper than 8 unless there's a lot of foul trouble. We have Mercedes and Diamond for 3 years and push comes to shove we have gone a few years without a true point guard, too, and the sky didn't fall, so it won't fall if we don't have a true post for a year or two either.

There are seven 3 or 4 stars post that are not signed and two wings in the top 100. I notice that Genno and Louisville signed a three star. We might want to take a look at some of these ladies. Naomi Ewkedike is 6'4" and appears to have some upsides. We might need to swallow our pride and consider signing at least two of these ladies. Sometimes you have to coach up players, we can't just count on boat loads of 5 stars. This year is proof of that. Do we have an issue signing three stars and working with their upside and potential? If so we need to get over it.

McCoy to Ohio State! No surprise! We have not signed anyone!

I am so afraid that our program is on the downside.

We better have a great 2017 class!

Excuse my French, but reality is a *****. It is so hard to see it until it hits you in your face. We can no longer live on our laurels and past accomplishments, this is a new day and we must make the proper adjustments. Don't worry about it because it is out of the fans' control. History will be the judge as to what reality really is to become. Until then have faith and go Lady Vols!!!!
