Lady Vols Recruiting Info

there is a post in georgia, ranked no. 17 nationally--committed to maryland. good grief.

Not signing anybody in the top 100 would be an epic fail by this staff--made worse by the fact that we signed only two players last year. Two recruits in two years--that is beyond bad.

Well this is where it gets really interesting.
So if McCoy is in South Carolina right now for her visit.... um they are playing Ohio State tonight :) So that should be fun. Just depends if she comes tonight or tomorrow to USC.

OSU is probably calling Baylor and asking how they tell their 'bench' players, "So... can you please transfer for us, we are going to replace you with a better, younger, player"

McCoy would never have to worry about that here :) All chatter seems to be Tennessee or OSU across all boards, with ours being the most debbie-downer to OSU.

I remember this same kinda of excitement with Russell when she announced her choice after school between Louisville and Tennessee.

Unbelievable some coaches will truly do anything to win or sign a recruit, Taking a sister who isn't that good, or hiring a dad is all it takes

Apparently that was a rumor. they are both going to OSU as a package

So if it is a package deal and we stand to land no one this year (as of yet) couldn't Holly offer the same deal? Or they rather both be close to home? Also I thought her sister is younger so what happens if Ohio State changes its mine about her sister after McCoy (Tori) signs?

They are a year apart from what I understand. I highly doubt Holly would ever agree to take a low D1 player just to land a recruit. Plus I get the sense the McCoys basically said if you want Tori, you need to take her sister too. McGuff agreed

We may not like it, but the recruitment game for women basketball players have changed. You either get into the game or you get shutout. I personally do not like it, but it is what it is and will not change anytime so. To win recruits you have to recruit on par with UCONN, Baylor, USC, Louisville, Maryland, etc. There are no prizes for being an angel when it comes to recruiting.

I get your point, but there are guards in the 2017 class that will play circles around Tori McCoy's sister. We are recruiting Mikayla Coombs and she's way better than McCoy's sister. And if Holly did play that game, what else would the McCoys demand? We are desperate for a post, but I'm sorry I agree with Holly for not doing this. Especially when we have a chance to maybe sign a super class with the 2017 class. Majority of our targets are in the state of Georgia and Tennessee. I'm hoping KK and Dodson will be our first verbals as they have been on numerous unofficial visits. OSU's system is about the guards, but I guess having your daughters at the same school is priceless. Monday will be very interesting.

At least we know Linnae Harper will not be transferring there. Just like Kelsey Mitchell's sister, it'll be interesting to see how much McCoy's sister sees the floor throughout her career. For those who watched the game, did Kelsey's twin get into the game at all?

We will need to go JUCO no doubt to get at least one bigger body to cover the 5 spot when Russell needs a break or heaven forbid any injury comes up.

We do have size despite lack of post depth. Dunbar 6'2, Jones 6'2, Nared 6'2 and DeShields at 6'1 to help add length when needed next year but to have a solid 6'3-6'5 backup post would be great and even better if we somehow get 2. Plenty of talent out there... just sucks we are in this position.

I agree. It will be tough to beat SC this season yet alone next season. Coates and Wilson has to be the best frontcourt duo this season and probably next season. SC is good this season, but when they add Kaela Davis and Alisha Gray next season, they may be preseason #1. Yes, we really need post players before next season, but I don't blame Holly for not meeting the McCoy's demands.

Yes, SC is going to be tough... really tough.

The only time you should take a sibling package is when they are equally talented like OK did with the Paris twins even though Courtney did get most of the attention Ashley could outright ball I never knew that Ashley was as good as she was until her senior year Sheri kept her buried on that bench why???? idk. Tori is not needed at SC as of now when she comes in they will still have Coates"senior" Wilson and Wilson will both be juniors and Staley will run that offense around Gray and Davis you have 2 guards who were "those girls".... In regards to OSU, Mavunga is gonna start in that position i don't see why not so if she wants to play on a quality team and impact immediately why not Tennessee like honestly whats going on has Tennessee lost it's recruiting magic do they not know that women's basketball is highly valued at Tennessee and that we aren't a "come up program"

I am not saying I agree or promote all the evils of recruiting, however, we have to come up with a plan or strategy whereby we can recruit with the big dogs. Not every successful school are a bunch of cheaters.

I hope you are right and we get a boat load of outstanding players, including a post player or two, for 17 and 18, however, those birds are not in our hands. How many of us thought we were going to land an outstanding post for 15 and 16?

We are only guessing about McCoy, we have no idea where she will sign. In today's recruiting game there is no such thing as a sure thing until it happens. Last year some of believed we were going to get on of the two centers that went to Baylor.

Who are the others that we're in on for 2016?

Well one was Caretti and it looks like since I posted that she is going to Ohio also. Wow they have signed everybody and accepted transfers now looks like it is time for them to run some players off for next season. Then there is Jasmine Walker 6'3" forward from Alabama who is now the only regular player we were recruiting unsigned. I suspect if she goes elsewhere then it is JUCO players. There is one good forward center out of a New York JC don't know how much contact we've had thus far. Most believed McCoy was most likely a Tennessee Vol.
