Lady Vols Recruiting Info

We need to replace Moore or Graves that is it nothing more or less. It doesn't matter if it is a JUCO if she can give us 20 minutes a game we'll be ok. If we get no one Jones will have to shift inside and I guess Dunbar. It will be tough to compete against SC and it shouldn't be that way. No reason that a team with the tradition and facilities of Tennessee can't sign one player that plays in the post. This will be a first in the history of the program if we don't get it done.

I hope they are listening as well!

Just to play Devils advocate let me ask a question which is really for the entire board. If you are not a born and bred Lady Vol fan what is it about Holly that would make you want to play for her above everybody else coaching today? I think that's the answer that a lot of girls need to know. We are all biased and can't understand why anyone would turn us down but girls are doing it left and right for some reason.

I get what you saying, I think for me (as a guy who has a daughter who one day hopes is good enough to play at UT) it is knowing she played for and coached beside Pat is part of the equation. She is fairly new to the head coaching thing so she takes advice and doesn't always make things her way or no way (As far as coaching is concerned). She (Holly) also wants to be successful and wants to raise the level of the program back to what it was. She also has the respect of former players who visit practices and so forth. I think this has more so to do with the younger generation and their belief that if they go such and such place they don't have to deal with the high level of expectations. I really think that is also part of the problem. A lot of these girls form cliques and decide to link up with another player (the LeBron James affect) because they are afraid to fail. Look at the girls from NC, many of them went to NC because Diamond said she would attend with them. Had Diamond committed here how many would have come here? The players we have got to come here, come here because they want to play on the big stage and want to wear the jersey and play amongst the best fans in the country. I don't want any young lady on our team that isn't here to uphold the legacy of the program. Not to bring UConn in the conversation but Geno misses out on recruit too (look at how many have transferred in the past 5 years) because players know that it is a standard by which you are expected to play and not everyone is built to handle that pressure.

why you think prospects would /not/ want to play for her? You can't raise the issue without explaining your own viewpoint.

I'm not keen on Warlick as a coach. As a recruiter I think that she's done reasonably well--perhaps until this year. She's not the smartest or most charismatic coach to come down the pike, that's for sure--but is true of a number of coaches. She does love UT and she does represent in that respect. I think that, if we have a problem with recruiting, it has more to do with the program than with Warlick: We have lost momentum; we have been out of the limelight, out of national title contention, for quite a long time now--that catches up to any program. I think it makes it harder to land prospects from distant states--even though we've got two players from Oregon. Proximity to home is often a factor with prospects; those who sign from distant states often do so with an expectation that they'll be playing for a national title contender. If they do not see that, they may opt to stay closer to home. That's my theory. Top prospects typically want to play for a title contender--and that is what we need to show that we are.

I agree with Armchair and how close the LVs were before Izzy's injury to demonstrate the ability to get back to the final four.

Recruiting is part of upholding the legacy. As I have said before you have to have a salesmen mentality. Remember at one point all Pat had to do was go to a recruits home in they were all in. It is a different environment today and you have to build your program based upon that environment. In the old days no one touched a player thought to be headed to a certain school, that is not the case today. We need to face reality, it is now a dog eat dog game. We must take the blinders off. I believe, as far as the X's and O's are concerned, Holly is a good coach. There is and have been, several successful basketball coaches who hired assistant coaches known for their recruitment abilities. This program has to be able to draw some of the big recruits or it will head down hill. Folks we are at the crossroad in which the recruitment must get better. We cannot sale our souls hoping that things will be better the next two recruitment years. Nothing is for sure until recruits are signed on the dotted line.

Two players from Oregon plus one more...

When Stephanie Mavunga was available, I believe it was implied by one or more of the board's "insiders" that she may have had an issue playing with Diamond from the UNC days.

She later signed with Ohio State. Perhaps she is having some influence on McCoy?

This is a really good point. I like Holly because I've been a vol fan all my life but she really have not done much do put herself in the top tier coaching level and the LVs have lost its flare since CPS left. She needs to make the final four this year to give herself some credibility and for players to want to play for her.

CHW is doing a very good job as the head coach of the Vols, her problem has been a long list of untimely injuries,I do think that she needs to get a better assistant coach that excels at recruiting

as far as post players go,it was hard to get anybody lined up with Russell and Izzy here and everybody knows that Mercedes will be the dominant stater here as long as she can stay healthy

i do think that CHW will get the job done this year,as far as bringing in another quality post player and are there any problems with the talent she has put together on this years team ?

I think the toughest question I would pose to CHW if I had a daughter would be about offensive identity and game plan.

izzy's little sister will save the day in 2017. wish she was 3 inches taller.

I said the same thing 2 of her older sisters have rocked the orange (One in Basketball & One in Vollyball) I just hope she doesn't pull a Katie Lou Samuelson and decide to go elsewhere

Are you insinuating that we may be getting a 4th one who is currently ranked 3rd in the 2017 class? Because we already have 3 from there (Nared, Russell, & Reynolds)

No, 2 + 1 is 3. The poster apparently omitted one of the 3 current Oregonians.

Tennessee made #1 2017 Megan Walker's top 7 list:
Louisville
Maryland
Notre Dame
Tennessee
Texas
Uconn
Virginia
She is supposed to be very special; quite a few comparisons to Maya Moore.

Louisville is loaded, I don't see her going there. Virginia might be on the list because its the hometown school. Its so early, but it will be hard for us to beat out UConn and Notre Dame. Some poster are claiming she's UConn to loose while others say she's ND to loose, so who knows. I just hope we have a better chance with the 2017 class because the 2016 class has been terrible for us.

Tori McCoy is vising South Carolina this weekend. This is starting to get pretty big. She stated a couple weeks ago. "I will be making my decision in December. I will have already visited all the schools I want to take my visits to. I’ll be done by December. That’s super close. I’m kind of excited for it."
SC is a late addition. She will sign with one of these schools = Illinois, Ohio State, Tenn, SC.

The 2017 class is already starting to make verbals. Tennessee will be represented well in 2017. We should know the majority of our class a lot sooner than how this year went (still will be a year, but a couple verbals should be made before signing day *should*, we are dealing with young adults)

Her recruitment has been so strange. First, it was waiting until April. Then, it was deciding between Tennessee and OSU. Then, it was visiting USC and Illinois, but not anymore. Now, it's signing in November.

She's going to OSU.
