Lady Vols Recruiting Info

First, I have no idea who leads for Cox. But some of your comments about UConn aren't exactly accurate.

Butler could start for at MOST (not least) 3 years and it is no certainty that she will even start at all. Remember, she was an unranked high school recruit while Russell was a NPOY and both have 3 years of eligibility so if there is to be more opportunity at the 5 I'd say it's at UConn rather than Tenn.

Boykin is a 3/4 and in no way a 5.

Irwin is an unranked 3/4. Cox is a NPOY candidate and a 4/5. I doubt Irwin could scare Cox off. (More likely that Cox signing with Tenn might scare off McCoy)

Tuck has at most one year left, Stewart will graduate and Samuelson is a 2/3.

That is correct. No guarantees at UConn. And frankly, UConn wouldn't want a player who asked for and expected guarantees.

I've watch Boykins play in High School since her freshman year and she played the 4/5 exclusively and with the system Geno runs she will most likely do the same. Tuck is a RS Junior so she has 2 years left (this one and next although she could leave early for the draft but I doubt she would unless Geno forces her to leave)(she received an extra year of eligibility because she tore her ACL 2 season in a row which led to her only being able to play 2 seasons so far) With Dangerfield coming she will replace Jefferson, and Samuelson will replace Stewart, Tuck will stay at the 4, and Nurse will start at the 2, Butler didn't start playing ball until 8th grade which lead to her coming into her own late she had a decent first season at Georgetown before transferring to UConn and was able to practice against Stokes for a season as well as get her body use to how Geno wants them to play and he rarely starts freshman because they have a hard time adjusting to the Geno way, but we shall she. If she wants guarantee playing time right away she will pick between Tennessee and Notre Dame which I believe like raider said with Notre Dame being the favorite because she's almost guaranteed to start there.

She definitely has the best opportunity to play at TN over all the other schools.

But, I doubt Dangerfield will replace Jefferson, who is longer, quicker, makes better decisions and a better shooter. I see Nurse as their future PG after watching her destroy the US. Butler is no match for Russell, she is not a Uconn level player and she will not cause us any grief or even start at Uconn as they are too versatile. From what I hear Boykin is injured and has struggled thus far.

Boykin isn't a Uconn type of player imo which is why I don't know why she agreed to go there and I could see her pulling a Samarie Walker and transferring to somewhere she fits better. With the team Geno has Butler will be able to play because she is a Rebecca Lobo type, Jefferson is in her last year and having nurse run your point guard takes away her threat to score but what do I know I coach but I am not at the level of Geno. Based on the last few PG's he's had they have all been lightening quick and I don't think that is where you can get the best out of her.

Wow. Some interesting opinions about UConn. Who knows where UConn will play the freshmen? All 3 seem to be versatile. I never expected to see Williams play the 4 last year but she did a nice job as a sub imitating Nina Davis.

But I don't want to turn this into a UConn thing. I was posting about what factors might influence Cox's decision. I still think that Russell would be a bigger challenge in competing for minutes at the 5 than Butler. I'm doubtful Cox will sign with UConn. For the last few classes their signees have almost all decided early in the process. It seems that the longer a recruit takes the more likely it is they go elsewhere. And I also wonder if both Cox and McCoy would sign with UT knowing that Russell will be ahead of them for their first 2 years? But then both White and Wilson are at SC so who knows.

At Notre Dame Cox would have a year to adjust while Reimer plays her senior year and then have 2 years playing with Turner at the 4.

Then again maybe her diabetes will make her want to stay close to home.

I've been saying this for months, we won't know our full class until April. We may not get a single player in November, but that doesn't mean we won't get a great class in when all is said and done.

Do we have a shot with anyone else in the class except Mccoy and Cox? Is anyone else considering us?

Here is my question and it may have been asked in this lengthy thread, but I know we should always pursue top ranked recruits, but what about like the 3 star recruits and developing them in to role players. It seems these days coaches just want players ready to go instead of taking the time to really coach.

Gule, not to take exception but young athletes abilities sometime flatten after high school and others continue to develop. The year TN lost in the final 8 Dedra Charles and didn't get host the Final Four in Knoxville I watched our 4 rebound and miss crucial layups. A long trip by bus back to K'ville. Four year later or there about she was on the Olympic Team.

The Vandy coach stated that IZZY had the greatest improvement in four years of any players she has observed.

Similar to other sports also.

It is hard to get a 3 star recruits to be a role player, most can get good playing time on a lesser team, most girls want to play a lot. Nia Moore is a good example, I thank she is better then Head Coach Holly Warlick dose. But what do I know. She is happy to sit the bench and play when ask, she has a very good attitude witch is very rare.

I personally would like to see CHW carry some 3 star so called project players, they have the room and with all the injuries,it would be nice to have a project Post Player and a Point Guard, waiting to get some playing time

it is hard to get players to fill that role, but with some time on the bench and in the weight room, who knows ? they would be able to earn there way to a starting position,if they work hard enough and I would like to see some extra depth

I'm sure that there are some young women that would love a shot at playing time, for the Mighty Lady Vols of Tennessee

According to an espn article, Cox has narrowed her college list to 4.
"With the early signing period set to open in less than a month, Cox has cut her list of college choices to four: Baylor, Connecticut, Notre Dame and Tennessee. Her remaining visits are this weekend at Connecticut and next week at Baylor."
(Which means Louisville got knocked off)

Whatever The Game, No. 1 Prospect Lauren Cox Is Here To Win

Probably with Cierra Johnson announcing she's going to Louisville is why she dropped them.
Which makes you wonder how much is playing time going to be a factor for her decision. She will have plenty of playing time with us :)

Some think she will most likely choose ND. I think her mom really likes ND. We will know in a few weeks. After that McCoy will probably verbal.

No trying to scare anyone, but there are only 20 top 100 players left on ESPN top 100 girl players. We do not have one verbal. How many of these players do you see possibly committing to the Lady Vols? I hope some are just waiting until November.

we have a good shot at McCoy and nobody else.

FYI Russell and Reynolds didn't commit until late October and November. We are in great shape with McCoy and have a shot at Cox
