Lady Vols Recruiting Info

Probably the same info that had her 2016 classmate Chassity Carter as a Lady Vol lock...

I don't know anything about that..can't get em all like uconn does, but then again it's uconn. Holly's kept the team relevant on the national scene and on the cusp of being elite once again..

Well I did hear that Carter was a Tennessee lean until the DeShields transfer. They play the same position and she didn't want to play behind Diamond for a possible three seasons. The women's game is becoming more like the men's game to the extent that players want immediate playing time coming in as Freshmen. Carter was not leaving the state of Tennessee. She will probably start at Vanderbilt next season plus be close to home. Its a win win situation for her.

I wonder why ppl are concerned about post players when holly pretty much has this girl by the name of mccune locked up for 2016. She's 6'4 good size good skill set and has a ton of upside. a great addition to go with Russell for two years..

I don't know if she's a lock, but if you read some of her tweets, she shows that she really likes Tennessee very much. It seems as if she followed all the Lady Vols games this past season and tweeted about it. I know she has an unconditional offer. Some think she is waiting to see what Cox or McCoy does before she make a commitment. Her AAU team doesn't get much if any coverage at all. She is 6'4" with a nice frame. It is being said that she is tough is nails and plays with an attitude on the court especially the defensive side and consistent around the rim. Have anyone seen her play in person?

A total myth. WCBB is filled with players UConn wanted but lost out on. Stanford has beaten them for both Nneka and Chiney, both older Samuelson sisters, McCall, and going back, Jayne Appel. Uconn sought both Turner and Wilson. And that's just posts.

UConn certainly gets some really good players but any thought that UConn just picks whomever they want is silly.

They went hard after Diamond as well. There was soooooo much praise for DeShields from UCONN fans but after she committed to UNC and then transferred to UT, my goodness you would think she was a horrible, selfish, "Only look at me" type player.

So true. But didn't LV fans do the same to Wilson last year? I know a lot of CT fans' opinion of Wilson changed after she went to SC. I'd say that's fairly common on most homer boards.

Seems to me that many LV recruits are described as having a strong interest in Tenn until they sign elsewhere and then I read MTSUraider tell us after the fact that they were always going to S Carolina, or Baylor or XXX to play with their BFF ZZZ. I'm waiting to read that posted prior to a commitment. LOL

Actually, IMO DD made herself look like a "a horrible, selfish, "Only look at me" type player" over the first 2/3's of her freshman year at UNC. Her stats were very similar to what Simmons did at Tenn that year (& we all remember how LV fans jumped all over Simmons, labelling her a gunner"), and there were several incidents where Diamond forgot the game while jabberring at the refs or her own bench. She admittedly improved late in the season and IMO looked very impressive in the NCAA's, but first impressions .....

Well, a lot comes out after the player commits that can't be commented on while undecided. There was talk on their recruiting visit to Tennessee that Brown & Mompremier wanted to play together, which I did comment on. They decided to do that at Baylor and not Tennessee.

Anyone who thought Wilson wasn't going to South Carolina should be examined. I'm surprised she took until April to "decide".

and even with those "faults", UConn would have taken her in a minute had she decided to come there.

You've summed up this entire thread perfectly. It's great reading about all this mutual interest between Tennessee and elite recruits. Some of us are already making wagers on what the excuses will be when it's explained later why Tennessee never had a chance after they sign elsewhere....

2006, 2007, 2008, 2011, 2012, and 2015 all number one recruits to uconn. Tina Charles, Maya Moore, Della Donna, Stewart, KML, and now Katie Lou Samuelson.. So ya, they pretty much do pick whoever they want and as you can tell, they end up with them. Not to mention the top ten recruits they also get to go along with all their number one recruits. It's silly to diminish the recruiting juggernaut that UCONN has been for the past decade. Are they going to get the number one recruit every year?? Of course not, but they will be right there in the mix for ALL the number one recruits that much is certain. With uconn getting those six number one recruits in that ten year span, and four different teams getting one number one recruit a piece, it's no wonder uconn has been so dominant for the past decade..

When Tennessee was on top everyone copied Coach Pat's methods. She was advised coaches and shared her methods. Her desire was not simply to make Tennessee better but to make college women's college basketball better.

My question is, what is Geno doing to make the game, as a whole, better? What are coaches doing to reach where Geno has taken UCONN to? Like Tennessee in the past, UCONN can promise a recruit that they will play for national championships and he is right on. Is Geno, like Pat in the past, just so far ahead of other coaches that they are having issues closing the gap? Simply speaking, I hate to see it, but not only does Geno recruit well, but like Pat, he knows how to coach talent.

I thank Geno is a very good coach, but he is a fantastic recruiter, I here he is very funny with girls one on one and they really like him. He spends many days recruiting I read all the time where he is at the girls games and very little about Holly, that might be because they don't mention her. When you get the best player almost ever year the coaching part is much easier. There are only about three really great girls ever year and some years only one and you must get them to win. Tennessee will have three of them next year, Mercedes Russell, Diamond DeShields, and Te'a Cooper. Also with some top five girls Bashaara Graves, and Jaime Nared. The other girls are very good and so happy to have them. This is the most top five girls Tennessee has had since 2008.

Teach you are on point with this one. Pat was vested in women's college basketball and Geno is vested in himself & UConn. Nothing wrong with that but he is not going to assist others to make the game better. When Pat agreed to the UConn series, she didn't need to for UT but she did need to for the game. Geno doesn't need to renew the series because he has gotten where he wants to be. Recruits are willing to wait to be a part of championship teams and UConn is winning so if you are a top talent and really can't differentiate between schools, they will go with the championship team. Over the next 2 years UT will change some minds of young ladies and they will want to be in the orange

Geno has always opened his doors to his practice for any coach that wants to see how he runs them. I have read several articles where opposing coaches thanked GENO for that opportunity.

He has done quite a bit in promoting WCBB including his terrific work in USA basketball.

Following the example of Pat, geno pretty much has an open door policy to other coaches who wish to attend his practices.

I could care less about discussing him or the school he coaches for. all i care about on this thread is news and information about the players we are recruiting.
