On reflection... this is also CKC taking the reins of the program to the extent of diverting from a tradition that (IIRC) Pat began. Noteworthy.

But, in the same breath, it's exactly what Pat would do, investing in a former player.
In 2021-22 season, the lone exhibition game was played against Georgia College. Kellie’s brother, Ross Jolly, used to be the coach. I’m not sure if he is still.

It does seem though that CKC is taking the reins. I actually wouldn’t mind seeing two exhibition games some seasons.

Kinda shocking they couldn’t have found at least 1 premier home game in the non conference

I understand a lot of places want home and aways but like you can’t tell me there wasn’t one team that could have came here for a one off home game. Even a lesser power 5.

I believe it also takes a team willing to take a spanking so I expect that narrows the list a bit. There are a lot of folks that still hold a grudge from getting blasted by Pats teams and are not all that enthusiastic about helping with our revival.

I wish we were playing Memphis again.

"Including our conference opponents, our schedule includes the top six teams and 10 of the top 20-ranked programs in the early preseason polls," Caldwell said. "We have our work cut out for us, but I believe our challenging non-conference opponents will better prepare us for what we're going to see in the Southeastern Conference.

"We're a little out of balance in terms of home and away ranked opponents, and that's something that takes some time to even out."
Seeing the big crowd of Tennessee fans in Memphis last year was a double edged sword. It made Tennessee want to continue that series as a home and home, it made the Memphis administration not want to play it at all. Will be interesting to see how that plays out.

No P4 school is signing a one-off to come to your place. Considering the opponents they have on the road and at neutral sites, it didn’t make sense to play another high-major team, even at home. Unfortunate with the way it turned out, but you have to have those lower tier games to develop your team at some point.

Scheduling in the women’s game is unfortunately going to move closer to what it is in the men’s game in the near future, where on campus matchups with major teams might become rare. The one thing that may stand in the way is that multi team events like the Bahamas or Mexico are falling out a favor because schools just can’t afford to go to them anymore in the era of revenue sharing. Scheduling over the next few years will be very interesting.

I was really surprised to see UCLA agree to a home and home series, considering the cross country travel they already go through multiple times a year in the newly constructed Big Ten. I know the staff has a good relationship with the head coach at Oregon, that might be a series to look at in the future.

The obvious connection to playing Memphis was Tennessee native and LVFL Alex (Fuller) Simmons, and if folks will remember, season before last we played the Tigers at home and they gave us all we could handle for much of the game. We ended up winning 84-74, but if I am recalling correctly the game seemed much tighter.

Because Alex is such a hard-azz with high expectations regarding effort, Memphis (as long as Simmons is there) will be a worthy opponent.

So, in this instance, the Gideon took his Bible with him when he checked out.
