#15 Tennessee rowing dominated at the Big 10 Invite in Sarasota today against #9 Michigan, #12 Ohio State and #13 Rutgers. They compete in the Big 12 for rowing along with Alabama. Danny White hired our new coach, Kim Cupini, from SMU. SMU finished #9 at NCAAs last year (Tennessee didn’t qualify) and half of her team joined her in Knoxville via the transfer portal. The Lady Vols will be a top 10 team next week and should be a contender at NCAAs this year, as well as challenge Texas for the Big 12 title. It will be interesting to see what happens with rowing next year as Tennessee, Texas, Oklahoma and Alabama will exit the Big 12. The SEC doesn’t have enough members for an auto bid for NCAAs as it requires 6 members. The SEC doesn’t allow any sports to add non affiliate members. Rowing will help the Vols in the Director’s Cup standings for all sports this season. Go Vols! 🍊

Nice wish there was a website with video that educated us about Tennessee rowing and other non mainstream sports

It's too bad that we didn't race directly against 5th ranked Brown in any heats in this event, as they were the second fastest team overall.
Even so, both our 1V8 and 2V8 put up faster times than Brown (and were the fastest eights in the competition).

Our 1V4 has some work to do as Brown was 4 seconds fast than our boat on both days--though the teams were in separate heats on both days. The Michigan 1V4 gave us our only head-to-head defeat in the regatta, on Friday, but today our 1V4 time was better (though we weren't in the same heat).

Our 2V4 was faster than Brown today, I believe. And our 2V8 was faster than our 1V8 in today's heats.

We did show ourselves to be demonstrable faster than 4 teams ranked ahead of us--notably 9th ranked Michigan. We came into the event ranked 15th but proved faster than the teams ranked 12, 13, 14.

I doubt we're ready to beat Stanford, Texas, Princeton and Cal--the top 4 ranked teams--- but we've certainly closed the gap.

It would be great if all the so called minor sports were covered by local paper and tv. Men’s and woman’s track and field and swimming, rowing , soccer and probably forgetting something. We do get some coverage of woman’s softball, but that’s probably no longer a minor sport.
does anyone else wish we had selected woman’s gymnastics as a competitive sport. It’s a big thing at several sec schools, drawing good crowds.
nevertheless congratulations to rowing team.
