Lack of Respect South Carolina Band

I was sitting all the way over in P and I could hear the SC band. Not to mention the dozen or so SC fans sitting near me chanting "USC, GO COCKS." I think it is all perspective and experience. I can safely say I did not enjoy sitting near them because they would get up every ten minutes and make me stand. I had one fan come over from nowhere during the circle drill and he stood in the aisle completely oblivious. I finally had to tap him and tell him I couldn't see. He was just there to talk to his friends and didn't care about the rest of us. A pregnant woman came by shortly after and told him to move because she was pregnant and impatient. He finally left stating he "wasn't welcome" and his face turned as red as his shirt.

Isn't this what so many here complain about UT fans in general, that they like to sit too much?

Well I mean SC did wait till we were out of the T this time before they ran out.. and I didn't write this to say all the SC fans were bad.. From the past they have actually been one of the better fan bases.. They were excited after the game but I still made a it point to say they didn't really have much to brag about.. They beat second string team by less than 2 TDs..

They were also a second string team....just saying.

It's not just USC's band. Sometime in the late 90's traveling bands desided to play for every second allowed by the NCAA rules. It use to be, one bad played then the other.

Was it me or did their band have their own little PA system that they were jamming an iPod or something through?

I thought the same thing... Like during PreGame I noticed that the sound seemed to becoming from by their band on ground level.. Then when we played music it came from up at the press boxes..

SC's marching band director is a UT grad. He's just doing his job at SC.

Howabout don't cheer when a college kid is injured on the field? Gaspumper fans are notorious for this. Well, this and having a permanent Skoal crease in the jeans back pocket.

Notorious? What proof of this do you have? Every fanbase has idiots, but don't get your undies in a wad because of a few idiots, and then make an ignorant generalization that makes you look foolish.

You mean like whine about the other teams' band playing too much like it's some horrible display of disrespect.

It's a football game not a band competition.. It's no wonder that people would rather stay at home and watch the game on TV.. My point was that I thought it was dumb to play every second that the ball was not in play.. I think it's dumb to play when your team throws and INT or gets sacked.. I thought it was rude that they played when they tried to show stuff on the jumbo tron... I couldn't hear it because their 20 second routine was on repeat.. I know our band doesn't do that to other teams... It just shows a little respect..

You people with the attendance argument are overly frustrating. There are teams that are winning games that are barely selling out 80-85k stadiums. We're NOT winning and we still have 90+ showing up each week.

Stop acting surprised that people won't spend the money.

Really? A Tennessee fan from Mooresville, NC is calling Gamecock fans rednecks? Thanks for the laugh.

On a side note, I didn't like the fact that our fans kept the Game-Cocks chant going with an injured player on the field. It didn't last long, but I was sitting there wishing they would stop.

As for the band issue some have, believe me, just about every school in the SEC wants to shoot a baby when UTjr comes to town and we have to listen to Rocky Top every time they gain a yard and a half. USC is not the only school that does it.

SHE graduated from Florida State, not UT.

Sorry; so I got Dr. Taylor's position wrong. No need to be a snit about it. He's the one I kept seeing on the ladder when the camera panned. And I wasn't trying to be critical either. The visiting band is supposed to do their best to provide a slice of home-field feel.

(And I know I will probably have to turn in my VFL card for the next two comments, but Step to the Rear is my favorite fight song [real tuba parts! yes!] and USC is on my application list next year. Dr. Wiess is one hell of a conducting teacher)

It's no problem. I liked your post, actually. It's a shame that people want to complain so much that they go after the visiting team's band to vent over a loss.

Obviously you weren't at the game..

I was at the game. I was sitting in the north endzone just over from Carolina's band. They aren't nearly as obnoxious as the Oklahoma or Southern Cal band. Like I said, there are a lot of college bands that play every possible opportunity during a game. What south Carolina's band did isn't anything new.

SHE graduated from Florida State, not UT.

Their assistant director is a UT grad.

It has nothing to do with venting over a loss or USCjr Fans in general... I just thought it was rude to play so much.. I would of still made this post had we won.. Congrats.. on the win though.. You beat a very bad team by less than 2 td's.. Can't wait to see you get embarrassed by LSU or BAMA in the SEC championship game... You're band will look really dumb playing every down when your down by 30...
