LA Times Article (link attached) on the Nico just published "They (UCLA) hire a deserter"

Honestly I don't think they did. I think Nico probably reached out to them since he had no other options and a team like UCLA would be foolish to turn down a prospect like Nico.
Yep, his family probably wanted him back home, back into the family fold, and baby brother too.. stage parent daddy orchestrated most of everything that has occurred…I guarantee.. he just wasn’t very good at it lol

Plaschke knows his business. As someone who has worked in sports journalism off and on for 33 years myself, he is one writer with a national profile who always impressed me. And I agree with everything he said here.

Did UCLA find through spring practice that they needed to go after Nico after seeing Aguilar? If they were happy with Aguilar, why would they pursue another QB?
Maybe they believe the hype. All I saw last season was a guy who couldn’t process the speed of the game and couldn’t make quick decisions. He may develop into the QB he was hyped as, but it will probably take a very simplified offense to make that happen.

UCLA picked up Aguilar, went through spring practice with him, saw all the theatrics playing out here and said that’s our guy. That’s a cold business choice full of questionable reasoning. After we signed Aguilar, if UCLA wasn’t ride or die with Nico before, they’re that much more locked in now. Good luck to them.
Deshaun Foster is learning and needed some star power. As he said, Nico and his brother are local kids and they want local kids to stay home and play for UCLA. Unfortunately, Nico can't join the team until Summer. 2 months to learn a play book and build chemistry is insane and impossible.

UCLA rents Nico for one year and a little over a million dollars. You know that if he puts up any numbers at all, he'll demand a huge raise after the season no matter what their final record is. His dad will still be a huge issue for UCLA even after he transfers because now the family will demand his younger brother be the starter. Glad we got out of all the drama.
I beginning to think the Nico persona is just a product of Daddy Ball, where it’s not really talent that dictates who starts on the team but whose daddy’s are doing the coaching and hyping.

So does this mean UCLA, given they paid Aguilar $1.25MM up front, paid a total of over $3MM to get Nico and lose Aguilar in the process??

This doesn’t even count what they paid on top of that for Madden?

Hate to see it happen but, damn, UCLA.

Morans.
My apologies. I found the original article I had read, and yes it makes it sound he got his payment out of the portal. However, I just found another Chris Lowe article that discusses his Tennessee deal and his UCLA deal. He did not actually receive the full amount up front as the other article seemed to indicate (or misunderstood). But, they had paid out over $200K to Aguilar already in hte time he has been there for basically just doing spring practice. His TN deal is about the exact dollar amount in total as his UCLA deal.

Hey not afraid just having to adjust my thinking regarding football, basketball, and baseball now. Move here and gone in a few months like Nico's bro. Committ to UCLA and leave for Arkansas and then Madden goes back to UCLA. Nico leaves for UCLA and Tennessee gets a transfer from first team QB that left App State for UCLA and leaves after getting Nicoed for the Vols. Geez
Think you missed my point. The post was I’m afraid it turning into semi pro ball. My response was eluding to the fact it already is

If Aguilar puts up better numbers than Nico this year, it would ruin the UCLA coach's career. And it's not too far-fetched. Bums don't throw for 3700 yards with 33 TDs like Aguilar did in 2023.
If Aguilar does better than Nico but UCLA still wins 8 games, then his career will be just fine. I don’t think it’s going to happen, but ultimately if Nico appears to elevate UCLA and then Madden sustains it, it won’t matter if they lose Aguilar.

Relatively low cost? Wait til next spring when daddy starts renegotiating for both boys after the offense has already been installed.
I can’t believe that UCLA doesn’t see where this is headed. Daddy will be negotiating for Qb1 and Qb2. I wouldn’t doubt that he will be demanding $$$$$ from UCLA before the first game this year. UCLA better be getting Qb3 ready!

They tend to do their negotiations before winter and spring portal openings. If they wait until spring after spring training, it becomes more damaging to the team, since they're then left scrambling for someone who doesn't even know the offense and has had few, if any, reps with starting receivers. That's the Nico way.

Just no. I don't wish them bad luck, just no luck at all. They made their own bed!

PS: With their previous experience with Nico's brother, they apparently don't adhere to the saying "Fool me once................". 🤪
