LA Times Article (link attached) on the Nico just published "They (UCLA) hire a deserter"

This has been a huge concern of mine. We are picking up the guy they thought was not good enough after spring practice for the guy who's off the field camp was a huge headache.

The headache of Nico's camp was worth the discount price and subsequent removal of Aguilar to UCLA.
Aguilar beat out 8 other QB'S.

Did UCLA find through spring practice that they needed to go after Nico after seeing Aguilar? If they were happy with Aguilar, why would they pursue another QB?
Aguilar wasn't transferring until Nico landed there. Nico would have went elsewhere, Aguilar would still be at UCLA as the starter.

When it comes to college football in LA, this is Trojans country. The gutty little Bruins is the small fries, SC is the double-double.

Don’t be afraid, it is semi pro ball now. Ain’t it just grand
Hey not afraid just having to adjust my thinking regarding football, basketball, and baseball now. Move here and gone in a few months like Nico's bro. Committ to UCLA and leave for Arkansas and then Madden goes back to UCLA. Nico leaves for UCLA and Tennessee gets a transfer from first team QB that left App State for UCLA and leaves after getting Nicoed for the Vols. Geez

ESPN just posted a Nico hype video and claimed missed NIL payments was part of the reason he left…

This is the first I’ve heard of a missed payment accusation.

Does anyone know the story?

I think it was all assumed that if UCLA was going to pay Nico that Nico would be the starter. Aguilar wasn't going to spend his last year on the bench and UCLA knew this when they signed Nico. Nico got his money from UCLA because UCLA knew they weren't going to have to pay Aguilar.

at the end of the day UCLA upgraded for no other reason than Aguilar is a one-and-done QB who was brand new to their system and Nico will most like be around a couple years. that fact alone is worth pulling the trigger if you're UCLA.

Aguilar was never "the solution" because he's a transfer portal senior. just like he isn't the solution for Tennessee's future. he's just a guy coming in to fill a job for one year while the real guys get one more year experience in Heupels system.
Except they only paid Nico roughly the same amount Aguilar was already paid. Aguilar was handed $1.25mil at UCLA. And he came out smoking gold bananas because his was a portal payment...up front.

If it is true in any way it is because Nico was ghosting his duties for his NIL payments. It was well established in a very short time after his ouster that Nico was not showing up for his NIL functions and was ghosting vested donors. And folks were getting pissed and tired of dealing with him. That has been published.

The moves with Nico and Madden gave them a potential opportunity to secure a starting QB for the next five years at a relatively low cost. Aguilar has only one year of eligibility remaining.
Yes, because, when one thinks of this family, they think, dependability, fidelity and stability. 🤔

Spyre HAS to sue the absolute piss out of them. It’s one thing to let them walk and not press breach of contract, it’s quite another to allow them to drag you through the mud at the same time.

They already can sue for breach of contract I would think. If Nico didn’t attend all the things he was supposed to. I’m sure we were planning to let it slide and just be done with them but if they’re dragging the collective through the mud then F em. Sue their sorry butts.

The thing that I question for UCLA would be- what is success?

If Nico throws for say 2500 yards again, 25 TDs, and 8 interceptions-and the Bruins go 7-5. Is that success?

I mean if you're gonna have a meh season anyway, then why even the need for the Nico theatrics in LA? Just go with a younger cheaper guy who MAY turn into something

You know Nico is gonna bolt after this season for either the NFL or whoever else will pay him.

I just don't see where the Bruins can "win" on this one? On paper, looks like Big Nic and crew bent them over and had his way with UCLA.

So does this mean UCLA, given they paid Aguilar $1.25MM up front, paid a total of over $3MM to get Nico and lose Aguilar in the process??

This doesn’t even count what they paid on top of that for Madden?

Hate to see it happen but, damn, UCLA.

Morans.

If Aguilar puts up better numbers than Nico this year, it would ruin the UCLA coach's career. And it's not too far-fetched. Bums don't throw for 3700 yards with 33 TDs like Aguilar did in 2023.

If he's good, it's going to be almost impossible to not put up big numbers in Heupels system

Realistically the only QB under Heupels tutelage who has not put up decent numbers has been, well-Nico

That was a well-thought-out commentary.

Nico effectively recruited for us when he signed his NIL deal. He won't have the pull or even opportunity in LA.
I still say Nico has shown me no reason to think he is going to the NFL in the 1st or 2nd round next season. He'll be taking a lot more hits with his new team.

I have real doubts Nico can just declare for the draft after the 2025 season. What has he shown?
And every announcing team that has the UCLA games this season is going to bring this subject up non-stop. He is going to get less popular as long as he plays CFB.

It will also come up constantly in our games too, but that has some potential to work for us. Aguilar could be the subject of some great stories if he has a nice season.
