LA Tech recruiting?

Kids will see the PT opportunities a mile away so we should do well considering all the other comparables like facilities and conference we have already going for us. One good thing about the situation we are in is that we could easily look a recruit in eye and tell them they've got good odds of seeing 3 years playing time maybe 4. The bama's and uf's could be 2 or 1. I am also with the other poster about Rogers being an early sign that top recruits will be interested.

DD has never been tested in big time recruiting. All he has to do really is to realize that the majority of players, obv not all blue chippers, come to UT to play ball at UT.

Its the school, tradition, fans, stadium etc...

Not the Coach.

IMO

Not true. He was at LSU for five seasons and served as recruiting coord. for three of them.

...and if you don't think that recruiting at LA Tech is a never ending test of patience, determination, and persistence then you're nuts!

He may not have been recruiting Top 100 talent but I'd say he earned a few stripes trying to lure kids to Ruston.

If anything....recruiting for UT is easier, albeit much more competitive.

I'm no "doom and gloomer" but I don't think we get a top 10 class this year. **Not b/c I think Dooley or his staff isn't capable** but bc I think we sign a class that's heavily built with OL & DL which are harder to evaluate and, at times, graded by scouting sites inaccurately.

Lance Thompson, especially, has shown that he's not caught up with star ratings or numbers--if he feels like a kid can play, he'll offer and sign them.

I think CDD, CJC, & CJW are similar in that regard. While they'll [heavily] pursue the highly touted players everybody knows about, I get the feeling that they really like to find those diamonds in the rough that may not have played at a 5A or 6A school but have shown the same ability as the more heavily recruited players.---and I think offensive and defensive linemen fit into that category more often than any other position.

I think we'll continue to recruit very well, and I certainly think CDD will get top-5/10 classes more often than not, but I just get the feeling that we'll only get a top 15-20 class this year--but also have a class that fills our positions of need.

Recruiting mods & recruitniks....thoughts?

you are dead on,,, we have to get the big hogs onto the team this year. We are fairly flush with receivers and db's, rb's even. This may hurt our ratings but if we can get some pro prospects on the line, then who the heck cares? This game is won on defense and at the line of scrimmage.
