i doubt it's very linear IMO. it's rockstar. they're usually pretty good at makings games that let you play the way you want.

It's a Team Bondi game, Rockstar is publishing. They've already said it's not all that open, it has the main case missions and then it has the random occurences that the player receives via their police radio while driving around.

Not only are you a good guy out after the bad guys, the city itself is not your playground. Though L.A. Noire is an open-world game (explore L.A. if you like, see the sights, admire the pedestrians), there aren't mini-games to be played or side quests to complete or pigeons to shoot. L.A. Noire is a far more linear game, that puts an emphasis on the journey, moreso than the destination, and one where the narrative and the characters take a central role, with far fewer distractions.

nothing is better than Mafia II - especially since you can't be in the mob in this game. Mafia II could've been a lot longer though.

no - Mafia I and II are the greatest mob games ever made.

They won't be able to have as good a story in this game or immersion like they did in Mafia I and II - but I expect everything else to be a bit better.

LA Noire ? review | Technology | guardian.co.uk

Guardian gives it a 5/5

Ever since it first worked out how to assemble pixels so that they resembled something more recognisable than aliens, the games industry has dreamed of creating one thing above all else – a game that is indistinguishable from a film, except that you can control the lead character. With LA Noire, it just might, finally, have found the embodiment of that particular holy grail.

From start to finish, LA Noire feels like a film – LA Confidential, in fact, along with any similarly hard-boiled example of film noir adapted from stories by the likes of Chandler and Hammett.

not tons of good mob games. The Godfather series was just terrible. Mafia is the only good mob game I've played.
