Kyle Rittenhouse - The Truth in 11 Minutes

It's my understanding he took a moment to honor armed forces members. Apparently the only person in the court that qualified to be recognized was a use of force expert that ended up being called by the defense.

Thanks for the clarification. Maybe it was an accident but it's still problematic from a prejudice perspective

Just prior to requesting a round of applause, Judge Schroeder was clearly aware that the next witness to testify, Dr. John Black, was a veteran. Judge Schroeder then made it clear that he was aware that this next witness was the only veteran in the court room, when he said this,

"Well, that's unusual not to have at least somebody in here, but Dr. Black is, what branch?"

Dr. Black responded that he had served in the Army. Judge Schroeder then called for the entire court room, which included a present jury, to applaud for Dr. Black,

"OK, and I think we can give a round of applause to the people who have served our country."

.... but there was only one person being applauded, and he just happened to be the next witness for the defense. Judge Schroeder's intentions were probably good, but the applause should have been requested before the jury entered the court room. A veteran judge of more than 30 years should have known better than to effectively direct the jury to audibly commend a witness, just ahead of testimony in a homicide trial. Had that been a witness for the prosecution? The defense team would probably not have liked it. This was inappropriate.

Eliminate the police, allow lawlessness to perpetrate in burning and looting of cities, and now nitpick a trial for someone who responded. GMAB
LOL. A judge presiding over a homicide trial just instructed the jury to applaud a witness, just prior to that person's testimony. There have been mistrials declared for lesser things.

It was literally Veterans Day. Even assuming he knew Dr Black was a veteran the call for attending veterans was open to the entire assembly. The prosecution has much bigger problems with evidence and testimony than having a defense expert witness pointed out as being a veteran on the actual holiday set aside for exactly such people.

You don't have to think Rittenhouse is guilty to think the judge acted inappropriately.

I think if gov would not of allowed lawlessness to take place like it did and was applauded, we would not be here. Just like the calls to defund the police and expect a citizenry to enforce the law.

You want lawlessness, you get it and otherwise I DGAF

Doesn't excuse a grandstanding judge.

You don't have to assume anything. Judge Schroeder's own words clearly show he knew what he was doing. The strength of the prosecution's case is immaterial to this. Judge Schroeder's call for applause could have and should have, been done before the jury entered the courtroom. It was unprofessional.

Maybe if the ADA wasn’t such a belligerent dumbass ignoring the judge’s direction then the judge wouldn’t have very publicly ripped a new azz hole in him… twice.
I'm pretty sure that the ADA only has been in court a few times, the cases he has brought have more than likely pleaded down or pled guilty and used judicial diversion and the other were dropped if they didn't give in.

I’d like to think he wasn’t their ace closer or that is one stupid ass prosecutor’s office.
