Kyle Phillips is an undersized DE in this system
Even though Kongbo is a tad bigger than D Johnson. He's more athletic. He can play that standup LB/DE/DT...yes...that position is ALL 3 rolled into 1.
The OLB position is about setting the edge, collapsing the pocket and making it hard to throw 3 and short plays.
The 3-4 DE is DE/DT. They hold their gap AND push the pocket.
So you can have a guy like Phillips at 270 there...because of his agility quickness and length at 270. Preferably you want a 290 pounder there that is 6'4 that is strong and has a motor.
We have some talent. But or 3-4 is different than UGA and Bamas
???
Well yeah.
But i mean...from a principle stand point. It is not the 3-4 run by Bama and UGA. Not exactly
No it isnt.... as far as it being different than bama... they will be different from a philosophical standpoint if when to call certain things but everything else is the exact thing.Even though Kongbo is a tad bigger than D Johnson. Imho, and its just my opinion, Kongbo gets more scrutiny because he was the #1 JUCO player in the country, came in with ridiculous hype and, quite honestly, just hasnt done much of anything.
Phillips came in as a 5 star too, but was very quickly injured multiple times. I think he has gotten criticism as well, though I agree it hasnt been to near the levels that Kongbo has gotten. I think part of it is because hes missed so much time due to injury and because hes so well liked as a young man....hes always put a good face on, has always done what was asked of him with great effort, never threatened to leave program when moved inside to tackle like Kongbo did.
As for Taylor, he came here as a 225lb physical freak without a position. Again, expectations imo. He certainly didnt live up to the ones we all hoped he would last year, but at least he did make a game-saving play vs GaTech and put up better numbers than Kongbo, the guy who some wondered if hed play more than one year in Knoxville before heading off to the Nfl.
Quite honestly, as we all know, they all gotta play much better. Im hoping youre right about the improved culture and coaching making all the difference.
My memory of Kongbo's recruitment was that he chose UT because he was told he would play DE here, and other schools wanted to move him to DT. I get the idea of being a team player, but if he came here based on promises that were broken, I would not blame him for leaving.
Philosophical?
As in "Philosophy".
Or thought-identity.
So you agree with me.
No I dont agree with you... why they do certain things will change but what they do will be exactly the same.... its not different but their philosophy behind the why will be different.
