Kongbo is a baby

The title of this thread is not going to help JK in becoming more of a team player.

Agree. Glad I didn't have any of you guys watching my every idiotic move while I was in college.

I have no idea what's going on with Kongbo behind the scenes, or whether he's a "baby" or not. I'm glad he's here and hope whatever is keeping him off the field can be resolved and that he becomes a solid contributor.

I literally sat 29 rows up right behind him. This isn't true. He played the first half. I SAW him play.

Maybe he did play in the 1st half but I didn't see it. I did see that he was one of the only ones walking out to the defensive huddles on the sideline without his helmet. I did see him play in the second half but he didn't have any tackles. Maybe he went in on special teams before the end of the second quarter. Either way I think it is obvious that he has been a distraction to the team if they are asking him to move inside because of the injuries and he just doesn't seem to want to do it. I don't think Butch and others would mention being a team player and then Swain basically saying he is a distraction if not true.

Is this entire thread based on assumptions made about a player due to his sideline body language? Cause there are an awful lot of angry opinions being shown here for having nothing tangible.

I saw him in the game as well. My wife actually commented on him. He played yesterday, without doubt. I will say, however, I only saw him out there on one drive.

We know he played a little in 2nd half. I was saying I thought he may have been benched for 1st half because he didn't have a helmet.

I also noticed he was one of the last to come out after the half but seemed to put extra effort in warming up to play in 2nd half? Hope he gets everything in line, he has to make something happen when he gets his opportunity. The man is built like a beast.

Because thats how people roll. Twitter has been successful at turning a generation of adults into 13 year old girls.

Treat everyone with respect. Listen to their concerns and try to mentor them to be responsible adults. But don't allow anyone to circumvent the culture your team needs. Team first or walk.

He's #1 is he not? He was on the field, I saw him.

He didn't play in the First Half (1st and 2nd quarter).

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee junior college transfer Jonathan Kongbo didn’t play in the first half of Saturday’s game, even though it was apparent the Vols were in need of help on the defensive line.

Bye Felicia!

I say Butch tells him to bounce, Saban doesn't tolerate this type of behavior

No, Saban just has guys with stolen guns and pot still on his team. They have their fair share of guys who don't pan out as well, the difference is the entire team is top level recruits so when one leaves it doesn't hurt them as much.

Let's not be so quick to be hard on Kongbo. None of us really know the whole situation. He could have quit like Hurd, but he is still a member of the team. Going in to the season we all knew he was a very raw talent, he has only played ball for a few years if I recall correctly. With so many injuries, departures, etc. I don't think we as fans should be so anxious to see someone else go. Give him time to develop. I remember the days when guys weren't expected to contribute their first year on campus, now players are looked down upon for not doing so.

Also, does anyone think it could have been concussion symptoms? They take your helmet usually if you have a concussion.

I did see him angry on the sideline at one point. He was going to go in one a play, but was waved off by one of the players. He came over to the sideline clearly upset that he didn't get to play that snap/series.

No but you've made it very clear you disagree with everything Butch does. I like you as a poster KB, but man this football season has got to you. I don't even know why man it's the best season we've had since 2007

No, I don't disagree with everything Butch does. I've posted over and over again, for four years now the great things Jones has done for this program. Unfortunately, IMO, most of those things don't involve Saturday afternoons. I do appreciate the steady increase in annual wins, but believe he's left several wins on the field due to his subpar game day coaching, and I'm hardly the only one. Otherwise, what he's done in turning around a broken program in short order has been remarkable and I'm thankful for what he's done there.

On the other hand, I asked a simple question....why play a kid that is clearly causing issues with his attitude and demeanor, especially when he's produced very little on the field and has balked at playing a position that likely better suits him and definitely helps the team more.

Even Butch said last week that Kongbo "needs to buy into our team concept" much better. Why play him over a kid like Taylor or Mixon or Lewis, kids that have by all accounts done everything right, everything asked of them and, quite honestly, have produced every bit if not more? What message does it send the other players? I'm not the only one asking this question.

I'd rather have a player pissed off because he wants the play instead of being satisfied watching.

I'd agree with you Carl if that was the issue. But by all accounts he's not pissed because he's not playing....he's pissed because he doesn't want to play DT because he wants to play DE. But, his team needs him much more to slide down and help a decimated group. So he's getting on twitter and trolling and he's clearly giving attitude back to the staff, hence Butch's statement last week that Kongbo needs to "buy into the team concept".
