Kodi Burns officially to TN...

I guess this is my first negative post on VolNation, but to be blunt, I do not get the Kodi Burns hire at all. He was lost as a player at Auburn under Malzahn. He remained under Malzahn's umbrella once his playing days were over, and he has not shown anything worth getting excited about as a coach since getting out from under Malzahn. I sure hope this is a positional coach move that does not involve QB coaching or OC responsibilities.

Then you do not pay attention to anything but Tennessee. Burns has been around more coaches than just Gus! He has been around some great minds in college ball on offense. Research please before making a negative post!

Also pretty sure Burns never even played under Malzahn, so he wasn't around to be lost under him. His last season at Auburn was 2010, when Chizik was there, the year before Malzahn arrived. Before Chizik he played for Tommy Tuberville. He played at Auburn the same general timeframe that Carl Stewart out of Maryville was down there being a blocking fullback type player. Excited to welcome him to Knoxville and see what he can do! Edit: aaaand I'm wrong because Malzahn was already there as the coordinator under Chizik. Shows how much I know about Auburn, I'll own it :p

I'm an Auburn fan - Kodi Burns had virtually no experience in any other system.

He GA'd under Gus in 2012 at Arkansas State and then in 2013 when he got the Auburn HC job. He spent 2014 at Samford as a RB coach (his first on-field coaching position) and in 2015 was at Middle Tennessee as WR coach. In 2016 he was hired by Todd Graham at Arizona State as RB coach but like a ~week later Dameyune Craig left Auburn to take the WR job at LSU and Kodi Burns was immediately hired to replace him as the WR coach.

Kodi Burns was a 4-star QB recruit from Arkansas who flopped big time. At the end of his playing career at Auburn he moved to WR and was a "team" guy who ended up earning reps as a blocker on the 2010 National Champion team. He made a few receptions as well, but he wasn't a performer at WR by any means. Gus Malzahn had virtually no coaching tree and by 2016 the failure of his system was building and his paranoia was already starting to set in. His failure at Auburn is the result of failing to adapt his system, and he became increasingly driven to bring in "yes men" who wouldn't question him. The biggest flaw in his system is the HS-caliber passing offense that has failed to develop passing QB's and WR's. In this regard, Kodi Burns is a product of this "system" as both a player and then throughout virtually his entire coaching career. Auburn's WR's have not developed much under him despite some talent, but again, this is kind of a microcosm of Malzahn's failure himself - Kodi Burns really wouldn't know any better because its not like he's a 15 year coaching veteran who has been exposed to multiple schemes. In reality he never should have been hired at Auburn in the first place as he was rushed up by Malzahn before really proving anything, but this isn't his fault.

Once Malzahn was fired Bryan Harsin had zero interest in retaining Kodi Burns for obvious reasons. He got hired by Heupel at UCF and this was a GREAT move for him because he finally got a chance to learn in an offensive system that actually knew how to utilize the pass properly. Realistically the offense is Heupel's so I'm sure you'll be fine with Kodi Burns, and he can recruit a bit and has "SEC experience", but this isn't some grand-slam hire as you're basically bringing in the right-hand "passing" guy from a failed HC who couldn't even pass the ball well enough with multiple elite QB signees and talent at WR. Burns is young though so I'm sure he can learn under Heupel.

Who else here hates Tom Brady?
I'm glad he isn't on the Patriots anymore,( because I DO hate them...) and I really hope he retires. Don't 'hate' him, but I am sick of hearing about him. Now he'll probably go to the Titans and suck bigly.

Same here.

He is the GOAT but enough is enough. Last two SB wins has all been his defenses.
