I thought Johnson did a good job with the receivers the one year he had that role under Pruitt and would be glad to have him back.

He probably doesn’t have to call anyone. His phone is probably ringing off the hook from coaches wanting that job

Trooper Taylor is trouble waiting to happen. Let’s not forget his calling up our players and having them actively recruit against UT while they were here (Gerald Jones JR).

No way he would come back. And you’re not wrong he is a good position coach. Just wouldn’t fit bc of the past baggage.

Burns was making 300k last season which is really low. I imagine he probably got an increase in pay and the opportunity to coach in the league was appealing as well.

Big loss IMO.

I hope we get a great teacher/coach that's also a Ace recruiter.

Good recruiters are a serious must for us at this juncture IMO.

Even if he makes the same, maybe even a little less you take the NFL job. You free up so many hours and days not having to recruit

I imagine it would be hard to make less than 300k in the NFL, I think he was one of the lowest paid in the SEC and definitely was lowest on staff. He did have a substantial raise kick in this year but still I think he’s probably making more if he’s jumping to New Orleans

I agree, but my main point is the NFL is infinitely more attractive because you don’t have to recruit. You actually have an offseason and you don’t work 15 hour days

No thank you on David Johnson! Not sure why him leaving when it did struck me but it did. He left Tennessee to go to another dumpster fire. We were better than Florida St when he left and we still are. Seemed like he just wanted out. So to me he can stay the hell out.

The Cowboys wide receiver corps improved a lot under Dooley. Mizzou’s offense was pretty dang good under him too. He has a wealth of knowledge about the whole offense and not just wr’s. I understand if you don’t want him back, but don’t pretend he is a bad coach just because he wasn’t ready to be a head coach in the SEC when we were a terrible football team.

Pruitt was the head coach. Look at the damage pruitt did to the careers of coaches who stayed on staff. I don’t blame Johnson for bailing.

Dooley isn’t a bad position coach but he will never come back to Tennessee. He rubbed a lot of people in that building the wrong way in his time here, also burned a lot of bridges with high school coaches instate as well. Personally I liked Dooley as a person not a coach but he was abrasive and egotistical. He micromanaged himself into the ground.

I would be all for Johnson returning to UT.
Pruitt lured him away from Memphis / Norvell.
He then had two very good years here at UT.

I'm still not convinced him leaving UT was so much as following Norvell as it was he knew 'stuff' was going on with Pruitt and Company and wanted to distance.
Actually, that might be one of the reasons he wouldn't come back to UT since the fallout is still somewhat in the air even though the FSU situation is a lot less stable than Tennessee's right now.
