You don't remember a little guy named Walt that was in his 30's and would write papers for students, do you?

I finished it after three years of going there (they kept raising the number of beers - it was up to 140 when I finished), but within three months of finishing they had a change in ownership, and they took the plaque down. :realmad: I've still got the t-shirt, though. Sadly, Spicy's went the way of the dodo a few years ago, too.

A bar in Macon, GA called Miller & Martin's did around the world. They had about 150 beers on the menu but if they were out of stock on on something and that was all you had left to go they gave you the shirt and did the name on the wall thing. I spent a summer doing it, but I had two frat bothers who started it on a Friday afternoon and finished on Sunday afternoon. I think they drank about 125 beers each that weekend (not counting whatever they consumed on the side). They made a vow, after about 20 beers, that they would shave each other's heads if they finished. They managed to shave one another before passing out.

I tend to get tired of over-analyzing the football/basketball programs rather quickly, but I could go on for hours about bars I frequented as an undergrad. :toast:

Agreed. Some of the best times are before and after games, it's the experience of UT that brings you back. I mean where else but the South do you get upset at a 12:30 game, not for the start time, but for the fact you have to start drinking by 7AM?

There has never, in the history of the world, been a better way to start a weekend of debauchery than with a Friday evening Vol Special at the Roman Room. The combination of Spaghetti, hambuger steak with heavy brown gravy, a salad with the sharpest Italian dressing on the planet, the always two day old bread, and about 10 Tallboy PBRs would propel one through the weekend in a state of bliss.

Wow. I guess those pickled vinegar eggs at The Tap Room weren't the best thing in K-town after all.

Never ate there. I was always a big fan of the Gus' Deluxe. Cheeseburger w/ ham and bacon and those seasoned fries. And as always the great delivery service :D

Thought so. We used to walk over there to play pool or when Toddy's got too crowded.

There's alot of places I always forget about.

Long's (drug store) had good tater tots.

There was a place behind Long's and Mayo's that was pretty laid back.

I had graduation brunch at The Vineyard. That was pretty good.

The Seafood place downtown (across from the World's Fair on the downtown side) is where my parents and their friends meet, but I always forget the name of it.

And Litton's was always good.

The Ye Ole Stakehouse was good.

Lucille's was great for good beer prices and music.

Let's see, then there was the Smoky Mt. Brewery, Manhattan's, BW3 and another Brewery that opened up in the Old City.

I loved Gus's. There was an older man that always delivered to us every single time we ordered. Was he drunk?

And the "Rooster" was a convenient late-nite sandwich.

Chesapeakes.

No, he wasn't drunk but stoned. You could actually pay your bill in illegal substances if you had any around. The Smokey Mtn Mrkt rooster was unbelievable.

EDIT: Not that I ever paid in anything but cash.

Another couple of places that I hung out at were The Spot (a little further west than Toddies) and Union Jacks. Not sure if they still exist or not.

You guys are all too upscale for me! I can't believe no one has mentioned The Maltese Falcon! It was a dive on the first floor of Shelbourne Towers - spent many a Thursday night there starting off the weekend. Best memory was a night that Bernard King, Mike Jackson and Johnny Darden came in and tried to hit on me and my girlfriends (unsuccessfully I might add)!
