My first thread. Sorry that it took today’s insanity to spark this.

I’ve read several articles and listened to the sports “talking heads” since this all broke. What I’ve noticed is:

(1) only a passing mention of the allegations, if at all, in most cases.

(2) The spin has turned this into an indictment of UT fans rather than a debate on whether this serious testimony under oath should disqualify Shiano from a top job or possibly from coaching at all. Head Coaches have been fired for much less. Read the documents with the testimony. It makes your skin crawl.

(3) The Knoxville media and nor Athletic Department are doing anything to counter the false narrative.

Maybe I expect too much, but should they be doing more to get this discussion where it needs to be: on Shiano’s suitability to be a coach? Not just a head coach but at all?

Good to know, but all I see and hear is the false spin. Maybe it’ll change tomorrow. All I know is that it is sad that the focus is on fans instead of where it needs to be.

Wes Rucker was very supportive of the fans and was equally befuddled by the decision to hire Schiano. He has been very clear that UTs issues are with the administration, not the fans. He is absolutely right in this.

National media hates us because when they post anything negative about Tennessee our very vocal and social media using fan base tears them a new one every time. They are loving the chance to make us look bad. I didn't see anything from local media saying anything negative about the fan base. Loved the titles of the deadspin articles.

It's bizarre in this age of #metoo that people are jumping to the defense of anything remotely linked to Sandusky. I don't think it requires much critical thinking to see Vol fan's POV on this - basically saying why should we be the ones to take a chance on him?

Yes, was on the air about 8-9 hrs on his day off. I’ve meet and went on trips with Basilio, he can be very much an odd ball, but he loves UT, esp UT basketball. His entire narrative was that UT isn’t in a position to take a risk on a dude with posssible baggage, along with a mediocre track record as a head coach.

Agree 100%. All these so called media people like Herbstreet, Ford, etc....should post the deposition transcript and let the readers decide whether they believe it. The transcript testimony is under oath, punishable as perjury, felony offense in most states, if you don't tell the truth. It's compelling testimony!

It is really puzzling to me that people are defending Schiano and his involvement in light of today's environment and the gravity of the allegations. Just very strange. Maybe they haven't read the transcript which you would think they would do before defending such a horrific allegation. Based upon the transcript Schiano should be in jail now instead of coaching anywhere.
