The caveat I would add to this though is that CPJ probably got more out of his roster than the sum of its talent. CBJ won 8 games with an 11 win roster.
This might be true, but there's something to be said about building an 11 win roster.
I'm a huge CPJ fan because he can win 9 or 10 games with a "7 win roster." He is probably a better tactical coach than Saban. But if you dropped him into the job at Alabama, he wouldn't have Saban's successes because CPJ is not the kind of coach that's going to routinely put together an 11 win roster.
He's a very good fit for Tech. But a different coach might be a better fit for other schools, because recruiting is also part of coaching. I have no opinion about y'all's coach, but if he's recruiting well, don't use that as an excuse to fire him.
Watching prior games, and Justin Thomas was a great passer. I always assumed e couldn't throw well.
Tech made a lot of third and longs because of his ability to throw. Tech fans are you worried about replacing that passing production? It seems Jordan is much wake in that area.
Yes.
And Yes.
One of our younger guys is supposedly a very good passer, and Jordan definitely
wasn't last year. But then again, his role wasn't to be, because he was a short yardage goal line backup. With practice, who knows?
So who do you think gets the start for Ga Tech? Still Jordan?
Nobody knows.
I've watched this offense a LOT and unfolded a lot of its flaws. On paper it's perfect, because you combine all the frustrations with defending the wishbone "classic Nebraska" style run attack with 4 seams and run-and-shoot passing. If players could do everything in the offense, it would be literally unstoppable. On paper. The biggest problem with it, is it takes a huge amount of practice to get the timing down on the option, AND it takes a huge amount of practice to get the timing down on run-and-shoot passing with option routes baked in. And you simply aren't allowed to practice enough to get good at both. NCAA won't let you.
Mike Leach schools everyone on run-and-shoot because his players practice like crazy. QBs are taking snaps every 15 seconds in practice for long periods, and WRs get really good at knowing where to go. We can't do that, because we have to dedicate well over half our time in practice to getting the option right.
So some years we're good at passing and some years we just flat aren't. 2017 might be an "aren't" year. No way to tell until the first few games are in.
Mark Stoops went ballistic during your bowl game last season when DT Alvonte Bell went down with a knee injury. I assume he was upset with the block.
He got pissed off thinking there was a chop block but there wasn't one. The announcers were laughing at him on the replay.
This trend shows you'll have 2 games lost in 2017 without a fumble -- one of your losses will be to the Vols with a fumble(s), but who will be the 2-loss teams without a fumble?
More like 1 "no fumble" loss per year. My money's on Clemson.
