Think the kid was just trying to make a play, nothing classless IMO. We would be pounding our chests if Kitselman did and said the same thing.

Having seen the play, no I wouldn't. It looks like a kick to the head, not incidental contact. Maybe you would call the chop block on Shy Tuttle a few years back a good play, too, but I wouldn't. And I wouldn't 'pound my chest' about it.

About when during the game did it happen? I’d like to see it and I can’t remember. If he did in fact kick a player in the face on purpose, that is complete BS and should be punished. I kinda feel like Kirby would absolutely handle it, but he’d do internally like always. Of course that doesn’t help TN much if there should have been a 15 yard penalty.

It’s the failed hurdle play.

Before anyone gets up in arms besides NW, just know he never sees anything clean from UGA. Yall would be fighting a losing battle

Should have been a penalty for kicking. I know he was expecting the DB to go low, but it's still clipping if a player turns and you block them in the back or if you slip and block them below the waist.

I’m watching the game again to get a good look at the play in question and just bc I want to watch it again. My God I think I blocked out just how good JA was in the first quarter. He started the game 14 of 14 with 3 TDs and over 200 yards, in the first! Doing that against a Kirby Smart defense is ridiculously good.

It seems obvious to me that the GA player was expecting the defender to go lower and was attempting to hurdle him. Delp has made successful hurdles on similar plays several times in the past, he unfortunately guessed wrong and the defender didn’t go low.

I’m pretty sure that when a ball carrier attempts a hurdle, any contact by his leg or foot to the defender is considered incidental. I truly don’t believe Delp was intentionally trying to kick the defender, and I would feel the same way if the roles were reversed.
