Bennett — the nation’s No. 480 overall prospect and No. 40 defensive tackle prospect in the 2017 industry-generated 247Sports Composite — insists his best football is well ahead of him. Considering he turned 17 just four months ago, that’s probably a fair assessment. Regardless, though, Bennett believes in his abilities as a player right now, and he said he plans to contribute immediately for the Vols as a hybrid defensive lineman.

“I’m trying to go up there and play,” he said. “My mindset is I’m going up there to try to fight for a starting job. I’m not trying to wait. I’m trying to get in there and make an impact immediately. I feel like my skills set is definitely gonna help us as an overall team. I just … I just love doing what I do, and I take it very seriously. I work on my craft a lot. I’m trying to go in there and start, and if not starting, at least being heavily in the rotation.”

Guess it's time to forgive Cornelius for his role in the tackle that finished the great TR's quarterback career at Tennessee in 1985.

If he is 3/4 of the player his Dad was, I will be ecstatic. Still a shame, that Bills team never won a Super Bowl

He and they did countless times on my Super Nintendo and Tecmo super bowl!

It wasn't so much the tackle as it was the celebration while TR was writhing in pain. It was 32 years ago though.

It's the right attitude to have but I don't see him not getting a red shirt year. He is so young. Some kids in his class are 2 years older than him. A 17 year old going against a 23 year old offensive lineman is a big 6 year difference. I think he will end up being one of the best players in the class when it's all said and done though.

Agree that it would be hard to make an immediate impact, however, judging from his comments, this young man will use that year to get bigger, stronger and more knowledgeable. Excited to see some of these young lineman develop.

I love Tecmo Bowl. Bo Jackson had only one play for the Raiders and everybody remembers he was almost unstoppable. But the play I remember, that drove me crazy was a little TE curl that my buddy used on almost every play. He played with the Giants and I am 99% sure, the TE curl was to Mark Bavaro and although it only gained 5 to 10 yards, he would run that same play all the way down the field. I would get so mad and ended up, breaking a couple of controllers

I know the play well!

Being as young as he is,he probably needs to redshift this year. I like his attitude and hope his skills can match it.
If injuries hit again(hope not), he may have to play. I guess tho him playing at such a young age and being physically and mentally mismatched in all phases with 20-22 yr old linemen can't be used as an "excuse" if he doesn't produce.

Of course it can't. What it really would be is; "He's a Bust".
