Kirk Herbstreit On Vols- They have a lot of talent on that Roster

We were only a few plays away from being 7-5 last year with a fractionated team and terrible head coaching. It's not hard to see us playing well above the set expectations by the media with a regime change basically from top to bottom on the athletics side. We had talent last year, we have even better talent this year. What we don't have is depth, but if we have a good year, then that problem will fix itself with prospects wanting to come play for Tennessee because they see the improvement

Herbsteit's schtick is that he's a nice guy. Kind of like Peyton. They will tell you that you have a beautiful baby even if its the most butt-ugly baby they ever saw.

Kirk always shows us some love but I agree with him and have said it before. There's much better than 4-8 talent on this team. Butch could get them here just couldn't do anything with them, like a dog chasing a car if you will. In all honesty this is the first year in a long time I can say I don't know what to expect out of a Tennessee football team. What I do think we see is a disciplined and well coached football team. I think the ceiling this year is 8-4 and the floor is 5-7. Myself, I think we go 6-6 or 7-5, 7-5 is us maybe stealing one we shouldn't. JMO but I'm looking forward to this season regardless.

8-4 isn't unimaginable, IMO. The talent is there.

I've been saying 7-5 for a long time now. we definitely have the talent to beat ETSU, UTEP, Charlotte, Vandy, Mizzu & Kentucky. We have pretty good odds of beating South Carolina, WVU & Florida. JMO

He is paid to talk. A constant stream of thoughtless words will yield some head scratchers and some good points. He is no different than most of those guys.

So Kirk did a radio interview the last day or so. One of his comments was that he thinks we will give West Virginia a run for their money, and that the Vols have more talent on their roster than most would lead you to believe. This is just a confirmation of what we all have been saying for a while now. We know we have the talent on this roster to compete with anyone in the country. We might not be a top 10 team by the end of the year, but we definitely have the horses to have a good season on rocky top. CJP hasn’t given much info to anyone about how good he believes this team will be, nor does he go out of his way to hype up any one player. Imo that is an indication that he likes what he sees and he’s perfectly content watching the media fumble around thinking this team is going to stink and go 5-7. All in all though, I was happy to see herby gives us some love on that interview because I feel are kids deserve some praise after all the hard work they’ve been putting in to make this year a good year on rocky top. 3 1/2 days until it’s football time in Tennessee again, AMEN!

I just dont get the sense Pruitt gives the media much thought one way or the other. If he had a roster of 2* or one chock full of 4* and 5*, I think in some ways he would be doing pretty much the same thing either way (tho game planning would no doubt be different). He seems to only know one gear - FORWARD!

CJP is no Butch Jones by no means... He seems like a legit, real, heavy hitter. The fact that the man says nothing regarding the hyper of the totality of the team speaks wonders.

No cliche's, no bricks, no finesse, no bs. .. just football.

Regardless of your opinion if Herbie, he’s right on the money here. Everybody wants us to be a 5-7 team, but nobody wants to remember the two 9 win seasons prior to the 4-8 season.

Fowler....he never showed his face in this state for a while, showed up for the first time when it was either Oklahoma or Florida that came here when was ranked lol before that he hadn’t been here both were prime time games though still sick over butch’s game management in the Oklahoma game

Fowler graduated from General William J. Palmer High School in Colorado Springs but don't hold that against us Southern Colorado residents.

Who wants us to be 5-7? Us Vol fans remember the 2 9 win seasons. They were two seasons that we beat basically nobody.

We have talent, even a lot of it, in spots....I firmly believe that. Just not nearly enough across the board imo. And, unfortunately, one of the places we need it the absolute most, and are virtually void of it, is across the defensive line, and that’s gonna be the Achilles heel (again) of this football team. Imho, our poor DL play is gonna be the thing that holds this team back, keeps this team from overachieving....unless a couple of the young guys who aren’t at the top of the depth chart, really develop and take off toward the middle or even back end of the schedule.

Would TN losing 44-16 be more damaging to the psyche of the program than losing by one point on an obvious coaching mistake? Seems like a tough call.
Getting blown out and not being competitive would be far, far worse. Losing by a point, no matter how it happens, to the #17 ranked team in the country would be infinitely better for the confidence and “psyche” of this team and fanbase imho.

I love Herbstreit and Fowler games. For some reason, the audio sounds a lot like Kesling during those.
Seriously, I have watched enough football that most games I turn the sound off. Only thing I like to hear is the refs tell about the penalties. MOST commentators get on my nerves - either a homey for the other team, or just annoying. Most annoying to me is Beth Mowins. Probably well prepared, but just can't get past her voice. Sorry Beth... Fowler has a faux excitement voice on big plays that leave a little to be desired. John Ward, I miss you.

Same here man. The last few years of Vern on CBS really frustrated me. I know he was trying but dammit if he wasn’t calling guys by the wrong name on every other play. It would irritate the absolute S*\* out of me. Gary d is at least manageable, but sometimes even not. Lol
