Kirby takes shot at Vols opening game?

At this point, Georgia is the probably the team in the SEC that I hate the most. Dirty players taking out Tuttle on purpose, ignorant fanbase, and now a loud mouth coach taking a shot at Tennessee when he's hasn't even coached a game yet. All I got to say is... Piss on Georgia. Butch will become Smart's daddy, just watch and see.

Funny thing is next year UGA opens up with Appy State

That is his point. It's easier to get your team focused in the off-season when there is a perceived quality opponent instead of a cupcake. It just gives you a little extra sense of urgency and that is why he choose Appy State.

The reason why he included NC with Wisky and Clemson is because he opened at Bama with Wisky and UGA opened with Clemson. Kirby knows NC isn't a top 10 team but they did give Clemson all they wanted in the ACC championship game and is good enough to get the kid's attention.

I think you're giving your coach too much
credit for THINKING. New coaches say stupid things...he's getting it out of the way. :)

It won't shock me one bit UNC wins.

It won't me either. What Baylor did was an anomaly. UNC is definitely becoming a better team. Chizik is one of the best DC's in the country, imo. I hope UNC wins and since we play Thursday night I plan on definitely watching them two play.

I'd rather watch Oklahoma get smoked by Houston and hope for the asteroid strike at Jerry World that night.

Not really a shot...or is it?

From ESPN

By the end of summer workouts, when the team is lifting the most, the players are watching clips of their first opponent. "It's a hell of a lot better when that first game is Clemson, North Carolina or Wisconsin than it is when it's App State or Western Michigan or somebody," Smart said.

Says the guy who plays Nichols State in their second game. Give me a break.

Let's review UGA's OOC opening games the last ten years (Bold = Big Games):

2006: Western Kentucky (5-6) C-USA Win
2007: Unranked Oklahoma State (7-6) Big 12 Win
2008: Georgia State (6-5) Sun Belt Win
2009: #9 Oklahoma State (9-4) Big 12 LOST
2010: UL-Lafayette (3-9) Sun Belt Win
2011: #5 Boise State (12-1) Mountain West LOST
2012: Buffalo (4-8) MAC Win
2013: #8 Clemson (11-2) ACC LOST
2014: #16 Clemson (10-3) ACC WIN
2015: UL-Monroe (2-11) Sun Belt Win

Looks like your team schedules a bunch of cupcakes (6/10 games), then when you schedule quality opponents you choke (1-3). Shut up, Kirby.

Again you are who your numbers say you are! Lol

I hope Houston beats them too. Since we play UGA I'm gonna watch'em and see how their offense works with a new QB. I am also curious if their defensive scheme will be that different from Pruitt's.

Then why'd he mention Western Michigan in the same breath as App State when clearly they're not comparable. He was talking out his ass.

At the same time, UGA is in a special situation schedule-wise. They give up a home game every other year to play Florida in Jacksonville and they have a Power 5 rival on the back of the schedule every year. I don't blame them one bit for playing cupcakes.

I suppose Kirby hasn't bothered to compared out of conference schedules between Tennessee and Geo the past 10 years. If he did, he would realized that if schedules were switched we would have about 10 more wins and they would have about 7 more losses.

He shouldn't be minimizing other schools, regardless of their stature. He is a head coach and should leave the trash talk to the fans or childish players.

Even giving Kirby the benefit of the doubt on his comments, which I'm happy to do because honestly who cares--it's the off season--let's talk ball games.

UNC and Ole Miss are both gonna be tough and y'all are breaking in a freshman QB while replacing a lot of your front 7 on D... There's a darn good chance UGA rolls into the Tennessee game 2-2 with the honeymoon already a distant memory and a boatload of questions about the new hire.

Hats off to UGA for scheduling Nicholls State in week 2, though.

While UT's making history in the Battle at Bristol.

If I'm not mistaken wasn't it just 3years ago that Appalachian state beat michigan in their opening game? As for Kirby that was not very smart!!
