Feb 09, 1998: -- Kippy Brown Named OC --

Related Links
The Sun-Sentinel and the Miami Herald have both announced this weekend that running backs coach Kippy Brown has been given the offensive coordinator job for the Dolphins. According to both newspapers, sources on the team are telling them that Brown has been offered and has accepted the job of being Gary Stevens' replacement on the team for 1998.

Brown was apparently offered the job on Friday, during the annual draft scouting combine in Indianapolis. Some analysts had thought that JJ was waiting until the scouting combine to talk to some candidates for replacement, but that appears to not have been the case.

Kippy Brown was hired last year by JJ as a replacement for Tony Nathan as the Dolphins' running backs coach. He came to the Dolphins from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he was the running backs coach under Sam Wyche.

Brown has a total of 19 years experience as a coach, with about 6 of those being in the NFL. He played quarterback at Memphis State from 1975-77 before taking a job there as running backs coach in 1978. He moved on in 1982 to the University of Louisville, where he coached wide receiver Mark Clayton before Clayton came to the Dolphins.

He has spent most of his coaching career with the University of Tennessee as a receivers coach, where he coached such players as Alvin Harper, Tim McGee, and Anthony Miller. Further details on his coaching career can be seen at the Dolphins Endzone website at the link listed in "Related Links".

this is a little dated but gives a bio, i think he takes another o.c. job in the nfl first.........

Kippy for OC?

People who know Big Orange football, they know who Coach Kippy Brown is, bottom line. This is the logical choice for OC or Recievers coach. This board needs to start running with this topic. :superman:

He was the man when he was here and I think we should give him a shot. I do not think Coach Cut will do it. Just a gut feeling.

Sounds like a good option. Can't wait to hear who they pick. At least it will get our minds off of our crappy bowl.

Kippy needs to come home to Tennessee, this could be a great job if someone at our school would just give him a call. Drop the massive egos and make the phone call. NOW

Kippy Brown was also coach of the XFL's Memphis Maniax in 2001. They had one of the best offenses in the league (Jim Druckenmiller, Rashaan Salaam). However, mistakes and turnovers led to a 5-5 season. They did beat the league champion LA Xtreme both times they played. Pittsburgh's Tommy Maddox was the QB for the Xtreme.

Kippy could be a good hire. He obviously has made connections in south fla, Texas, and Memphis, all recruitting hot beds. He would bring more racial diversity to the staff. His management ability and NFL success is a given. I wouldn't be too quick to take back Cutcliff if I was Fulmer. Kippy is alot sexier.

He will not come here from the NFL BUT, Thomas "TD" Woods has been contacted at Ole Miss. (i hear this) He played for KB, was a stand up guy, and has UT blood. He is younger, go get him!

For OC or WR coach?

Guys, Guys: With all his NFL experience, Kippy is qualified to be a college head coach---not an assistant or coordinator--and I strongly suspect that's the way he feels! He's been an OC in the NFL, so taking the same job at a college is a major step BACKWARDS. I don't know too many people who want to do that with their careers.

Personally I don't think there is another Pete Carroll out their in the NFL floating around. I say go with David and or a possible new up and comer.
