Rut definitely improved some things upon his second return. I believe we should have been better but then again our talent level on offense currently isn't all that great (avg at best). Rut is bad for not letting Fresh play, huge gripe among the Rebel faithful when he was in Oxford, loved redshirting guys.
I think if we go outside the UT family we can really come out smelling like a rose on all these coaching changes, if we pick a Kippy Brown, Doug Marrone, Greg Atkins, then we'll see the same ole stuff we've been seeing since the early 80's (minus the 90's) b/c we don't have a Heath Shular or Peyton Manning on the roster. The qb's we have now aren't going to be any better than Ainge or Clausen.
Troop - I'd guess would need time to grow as an OC; the guy is much mroe intelligent than those that don't know him personally know he probably would do some modern day things then would probably make mistakes too, but look at all Rut's experience and he makes several mistakes each game play calling. If were to keep it in the family then I hope Troop does get it b/c at least he'll get us the talent we need and talent alone can win alot of games (not championships though). Our best bet w/ a UT guy is Troop, I prefer going outside the UT family get someone that can be creative and catch our scheme up w/ the times...
Please let Kippy go to Duke so that we will be one step closer for us to go outside the "fam". Kippy has to be getting up there in age - he's been in the league for 15 years now and is still a position coach, that's a little alarming. I know he was a corrdinator somewhere in the league but he's not anymore, I'd be wondering why..
If a UT guy gets it you better be rooting for CTT; if Brown, Marrone, Adkins get it then we're 9-4 all over again and again and again.
