Props to LWSVOL for breaking this a few days ago...

welcome back kippy

Thats a home run! People were talking about Kippy being the OC a couple years ago. To get him as a wide out coach is a big get. :dance2:

With all the talk about CJC leaving, could Kippy be the OC in waiting?

I guess he could be, but I don't see Chaney leaving at least for another season or two. I think next season Kiffin will start turning more of the play calling over to Jim, I think he might have called the plays this year just to get his system set up and allow Chaney to fully invest in the system before turning the calling over completely to him.

Just my theory.

Kippy is WR Coach and Passing Game Coordinator.

It is a logical next step for him to be OC - whether that is at UT or not is yet to be seen.

Love the hire, welcome back to Knoxville Kippy!

Any idea how long he'll stay? Not a one and done I hope...

I think you will see Kippy stay for as long as UT wants him here. He has put in enough years to retire from the NFL, so I don't see money as an issue, and he is back home. I talked to some of his family and friends and they seem to get that same impression. GO VOLS !! And welcome home Kippy !
:)

So this is my first post on volnation, and I cant think of a better day than today with the great news coming in. AS excited as I am about Kippy taking us back to WRU, I was curious at what you think about Brown and Gonzales holding the same title. Wish we could see what went down behind the scenes. GO Vols! Bring us back to to glory days Kipp

Thanks, that helps ease my worries.

Someone explain to me why this is such a good hire. The man was the assistant head coach on possibly the worst team in NFL history.

I don't post a lot..........and I mention this even less, but I was on the football team in the mid to late 80's -- while Kippy was there. He was one of the better coaches in my time there....so much so that I had wished I was a WR. He was not only a good coach, but was very good with the players -- knowing which ones to push, which ones to coax along, good at relating with them. I respected him as a coach and as a person.....and that's high praise.

IMHO, this will be a good hire.

good to have CKB back at UT, and good call Larry. Also, a classy move, in the OP, of giving LWS props for breaking the story.

Is there a staff in the nation with more NFL coaching experience at this point? Recruits will know that if they come to UT it gives them the very best chance to make the most of their abilities and get to the league.

As a first time poster and a life long VOLS fan I am very excited about this hire. From reading through the thread I don't believe CLK could have made a better choice. He brings great experience as well as a great role model for young men. Welcome home coach.
GO VOLS
