Kippy Brown leaving for the Seattle Seahawks (Merged)

If Kippy is such a great hire why didn't he get the Memphis State job?? Guess they were racist to! I think most people like Kippy and we are glad he tried to steady the ship! All I can say is he was hired to be an assistant coach and that is what he is! If he chooses to leave I wish him luck in his new adventures!

I am amazed at the fanbase. Now were racist because we did not just hand the HC job to Kippy! Posted via VolNation Mobile

I don't consider myself responsible for Hamilton's actions, so 'we' is not the approrpiate pronoun.

I've already said, it's simple, the University should divorce itself of Hamilton's hiring process and they have the means to do that.

Kippy has essentially been a position coach his entire career. Offer him an OC title - you don't get the HC job simply because you're the last man standing. I didn't want Kippy, didn't want Cutcliffe, either.

I like Brown a lot, but if a guy who was hired to be the wide receivers coach in December gets pissed off because he wasn't considered as a serious head coach candidate in January, then that's his problem.

I would like to have seen Kippy get the job, but it's obvious that Hamilton wants to hire young energy guys. Kippy's only five years younger than Fulmer. He was never going to be the coach except as a last resort.

HOLY CRAP

This race card nonsense is making me furious.

Kippy Brown IS NOT a candidate for ANY HC jobs other than the one he just interviewed for and did not get. Memphis Maniax is as close as he has come to being an HC. He has raised no money from boosters, he has run nothing.

If you think that this is a racist hire after Lovie turned us down there is nothing I can do for you. Dungy or Lovie would have been hired if we could have gotten either one. We could not...

Jesus Christ, no one was asking for them to hand him the keys for four or five years. We want Kippy because it would have given us a chance to have a proper search and find a proper top level coach.

One of our VP's at work formerly worked in the AD office at UT after college, he said that Kippy didn't present himself well and was as a whole perceived as being very unorganized. Could be part of it

In three weeks this will all be behind us. Who stays, who goes, who we hire, who we recruit and we can focus on the 2010 football season.

Mods all of the Kippy Brown was not hired because he is black nonsense should be exiled to the same place where this thread went. It is a smear by completely braindead individuals against our University.

I'm neither braindead nor criticizing the University. I don't think the University is racist whatsoever.

But I do think, Hamilton must explain and defend why he hired the guy he did over the guy he didn't bother to interview.

Get mad if you want. That won't solve the problem. It's the most visibile inquiry made for major college football (and NFL) hiring decisions today. Your anger will not make it go away.

Instead, it must be addressed through a thorough, deliberate, and unbiased hiring process. If that's what Hamilton did, he has nothing to be concerned about. If it's not, the University should protect itself.

Wow! If true. Go coach for the guy that refered kiffin to leave us! Smart move kippy. You was liked around here. If you make this move it could be bad for u in the state of tennessee

Some of you sit behind your keyboards, yet somehow know all that went on behind the scenes and now claim race played an issue and Hamilton must be fired. That's laughable. If Hamilton thought Kippy was best for the job, he'd have hired him. Doubt Hamilton could care less if he's white, black, pink, or green. Hammy's job is on the line, and you think he'd pass over Kippy because he's black? Patently absurd.

This..

And oh by the way, Kippy seems to have landed on his feet....

In Seattle, at double the salary, with Petey...

I reckon green was more of an appealing color to him than orange...

If true then hamilton should be let go. Its already difficult enough taking in this hire, knowing this decision is the biggest in UT history. I now finding out that possible one of the greatest coaches in UT history didnt get a legit shot. Bye hamilton[/Q

I like Kippy Brown but if he is one of "the greatest" coaches in UT history then the list of "greatest" coaches would have to be a long one. I can't understand why so many people think Kippy deserved to be the head coach at Tennessee. The reason I hear more then anything is that he loves Tennessee and is a Tennessee guy which may be true but that doesn't mean you should be the head coach at UT. To me it just seems like Kippy nearly fell into a big check and didn't mind taking advantage of the situation. Kippy said in the pc a few days ago that if he didn't get the job it wouldn't be upset and he would still give his all for Tennessee. Where has Kippy been the last 15 years? Kippy has turned down job after job here since he left in 94 and that's ok because he had his reasons for staying in the NFL (pension) but some people want to make it sound like Kippy has always put UT above anything else which just isn't true. That said I do like him as a coach and hope he stays. If he would accept a job to work for :censored: then why wouldn't he work CDD?

If I were him, I wouldn't stay, either.

After what he did to calm the situation and keep things going, Folks he didn't leave UT, UT (Hamilton) left him hanging in the wind. If I were him I would have been on the first plane out of Knoxville. That being said, I am 100 % behind Coach Dooley, he is our guy and we need to support him and give him a chance. Hamilton did this, not Kippy, not Coach Dooley.... remember that... GO VOLS !! :peace:

So much for not being a West Coast guy or being done moving his family around...

He was trying to sell himself for the job.. at least that's certainly the way it looks.

He is a good position coach, but since he's sniffed OC once (10 years ago... and not since) that's painfully obvious how the NFL views him. Never been in legit contention for a Head Coaching job as far as I've ever been aware.

not reading all the replies....

If it were true, then obviously he's not that loyal to UT as everybody thinks.

People are going to believe what they believe. IMO, Hamilton gave him a sham interview, which was the equivalent to a slap in the face. He disrespected the man. I wouldn't work for someone who disrespected me like that if I had other options. Kippy had other options, he took them.

For what Kippy has done for this university, both in the past and these last few days, he deserves respect. I do not believe he was positioning himself just to be head coach. He wanted a legitimate shot and it wasn't given to him. The news of the Dooley hire was already leaking out before Kippy even interviewed.

Hamilton is a horrible AD. He doesn't represent UT with the honor, the class, the integrity that he should. The man should be fired.

Kiffin is a low-life reptile, no doubt, but he was smart enough to surround himself with proven coaches and the best recruiters. DD is starting to sound as if he just wants good team players for assistants who play well with others. He's already let one of the best position coaches around, a man fully familiar with Tennessee tradition, Kippy Brown, slip through his fingers. When Phil was the man we all knew he was the CEO type of head coach and not the best coach or coordinator on the team. Same with Lame. If Dooley plans on micromanaging the whole shooting match, we are in deep trouble.
