I've seen a combo pack coming out with the controller, camera and multi sports game for $100. The camera will supposedly detect the controller for more realistic reaction. I may have to check it out when released.

I've seen the whole two piece controller for $80 ($50+$30); haven't seen though a price on the camera though, but from everything I can tell, it's a necessary piece for it to work

I'm curious why you're viewing getting this for the more mature age group end...they haven't released anything that is either more mainstream or designed for an older audience yet (it's really just the wii sports looking graphics game and the pet the tiger kittens game, those are really the only types of games they've shown for it)

wouldn't it be better, since it seems to be casual only at this point, to let the kids play the regular xbox games for a while (if they're interested in them) and wait and see if this thing evolves into something that does more non-casual game wise (they sound more interested in those currently) rather than solely the brightly colored kinect sports and kinectimals (which sounds like the types of things you're saying they're now getting bored with) that have been shown before choosing to purchase it?

This is what I was thinking. I fail to see right now how Kinect is going to appeal to older gamers since it's aim is to cut into the casual/kid market of the Wii. Just because it is associated with the 360 isn't going to make it anymore "mature", and I doubt many of the core gamers are going to even bother getting Kinect.

Until a developer comes out with a core game that's a must own and can only be played with Kinect, then it will stay as the 360's version of the Wii.

I would like to give this a try to see how it compares to the Move. Playing Tiger Woods with the Move was awesome.

I picked up Kinect last night at Best Buy for my son who is 8. Its a Christmas present, so unfortunately I cant break it out and try it.

Great thing about having kids is you get to buy them stuff they want...and you get to use it as well.

This is one of the most overlooked perks of fatherhood

Absolutely.

I also had to purchase a new PS3 since mine had the YLOD three days ago. I attempted to repair it myself which I felt comfortable doing (have repaired two other ones for friends)...only to find that the motherboard had what looked like burned syrup on it....figured something fried.

I had that system since launch so no biggie.

I have both a Wii and 360 and I can't see buying the Kinect. Even if it was ever superior to the Wii, the games are all the same (except with better graphics for sure). I think for the casual gamer who only has a 360, this might be a good alternative though. I take my stance on the new revolution between the 3 systems as this... it's like buying a car. You don't buy a first gen new car for 2 reasons. 1. you never get your money's worth. 2. There are typically a lot of bugs to work out. Plus I don't want to look like an a$$. lol Atleast with my Wii I have a controller and i'm usually drunk. :D Until Kinect comes out with COD or other FPS titles for core gamers, i'll leave it for the rest and keep my little Wii dude.

So who else thinks this is going to be a huge fail for Microsoft?

All in all...I think Microsoft falls flat on its face with this. I'm sure some will buy it but it just has fail written all over it.

Its going to be the most worthless, unresponsive, piece of crap. Ever.

Due to the opening sales figures and future estimates, you might have been a bit premature in your comments

It's all the early adoptors cashing in on the whole keeping up with the Jones's thing. Look what new shiny thing I got!! The price will go down and if its worth it, i'd trade in my Wii for it at Gamestop when Microsoft stops skimming the prices.
