Kiffin's Test

Now we see how Kiffin coaches through adversity. Is he going to be able to keep this team together, something he was not able to do with the Raiders? The way this team responds over the next three to four weeks (on the field, on Saturdays) will be a great indicator as to how Kiffin will turn out in the long run.

The team does not have to beat Florida, however, if it gets ugly early and the team quits...watch out.

Well, we are thinking along the same lines. Kiffin is also going to start seeing UT game attendance drop.

I see the next big test as Auburn, he loses that game and this season is in melt down.

Disagree. The team has a qb. Tennessee has not given the kid proper qb instruction since he's been here. Fou rdifferent o/c since he's been here. A 5 star qb coming in out of high school that just hasn't been trained, and as of yesterday it remains the same it would seem.
A bunch of different coordinators didn't seem to hinder Carson Palmer in his final season. I believe Jason Campbell also went through a few OCs, and he didn't play too bad in his Senior season.

This is why it is ridiculous for anyone to complain about the reduced seating capacity at Neyland. We have so many fair-weather fans that we can't even sell out games as it is now.

I thought Kiffin was fairly well-liked amongst his players while in Oakland. He was starting to turn the corner as far as W-L when he got canned. The UT players fought yesterday even though they lost. They don't want to go through another 2008 season.

Kiffin is in a tough spot. If he plays JC this wknd and he continues to struggle in a big loss, Kiffin gets criticized for not taking a chance that obviously needs to be taken.

On the other hand, making a change at qb heading into the florida game is a tall order.

Arguably, the error here was in not making the change preseason.

I have to wonder just how much Stephens wrist injury affected the decision. Either way, neither QB is the answer we need. Stephens and Crompton had very similar stats last season.

I am beginning to think Crompton is color blind! I just watched the Kiffen show and he was throwing passes where no orange jersey was within 15 yards of the throw. Look at the one he threw in the ground and the end of the game...3 Bruins and no orange in the shot!
BJ Coleman is playing pretty good at Chattanooga, I just don't think Kiffen realized that he was ready to walk. He would have easily won the game yesterday!

He threw a pick six and lost to Furman.

Coleman's team lost to Furman by 18 and he quit on us. I'll pass. :hi:

1) As mentioned previously, the NFL and College can't be compared. They are totally different. I have spent time working with both, and can say without a shadow of a doubt that they are different.

2) Yes, it was said that there was some finger pointing going on after the game last night. Even with everything that has been done to bring this team together, when something happens as did last night, it is not unthinkable for a few guys out of 85-100 players to revert back to last years mentality.

The difference this season will be how the team leaders and the staff handle it. Berry and Chris Walker were both quoted as saying that it was nipped in the butt and that they would not allow it to happen on their watch. Everything that I have heard and read has made me believe that both of these kids are two of the most respected players on the team and that when they speak, people listen.

I agree with BPV that the QB is typically a de facto leader in college, but its also been my experience that the Coach and a super star type like Berry can balance that. In the midst of what was going on last night, I really liked the way that Kiffin handled himself. Fulmer by all accounts seem to let last seasons blunders get to him and it showed. Kiffin, while pissed off (as he should be) last night, seemed to remain poised on the sideline.

Kiffin is going to keep this team together, come hell or high water.

I think between him and his staff, especially Orgeron and Monte they can do it...

Look at who left during spring, Kiffin's not going to put up with any player that doesn't buy in

For a team that went 1-9 last year I think they are much improved. I didn't expect BJ to turn the whole team around, and I think I have seen a few hall of fame NFL guys throw a pick six...that is a down right stupid statement!

And he still quit on the Vols. I hope he enjoys his time at UTC.

True about Walker and Berry but I think it's safe to add Reveiz and Hardesty in that little group as well. Those 4 guys are mine captains for this season. These four need to lead a private player's only meeting. I really think they would listen. If you don't listen to Berry you don't deserve to have a jersey, let alone if you don't listen to any of these 4 I don't want you wearing the orange. Those 4 truly give it their all, never take a snap off, and give no excuses. Regardless how bad we lose this week, I will be satisfied if they just bounce back and give it their all. I think playing at Florida this week is the best thing for this team because this is no time to feel sorry for yourselves and for them to see the true Tennessee pride honor it is to play for Tennessee. If they don't show their pride this Saturday in Gainesville, they will never show it this season. I really do think playing Florida is the best thing after what happened last Saturday is a great opportunity to show their pride.
