Alright, Gentleman, This is it, this is the game the whole state of Tennessee and fans all across the states that love you guys, this is the game everyone is waiting on, this is the game where we can save this season and shut a lot of mouths. Now you have a chance, you have a choice, to go out there and not set a tone and get embarrassed by Florida, or you can go out there defense and put Tebow down and make him pick himself up off the ground consistenly, and offense you can set a tone by getting the first score, Crompton, don't worry about it, go out there and have fun, if you start getting rattled, just step away, take a breath and everything is going to be fine I promise. Now, Gentleman, the whole country is doubting us, badmouthing us, hell, even the lines in Vegas say we are going to get trounced by 35, well, like I said, you have a choice, either go out there and set the tone from the beginning or get walked on, be aggressive gentleman, be physical, let them know that Tennessee is here and we sure as hell are not going anywhere or going into hiding for the next 60 mins, lets go, it's time, time to take the war outside.

And another thing, pretty sure it's going to be a downpour in the Swamp on Saturday, I am leaving tonight, but I hope it is a downpour, I would love for the Vols to drain the Swamp, while I am there.

Downpour = running game for both sides. I like our chances with heavy rain the mix. I'll take every advantage we can get.

Yes, I'm going and don't really want to sit in the rain for 3 hours but I think it might give us a better chance, so I'm all for it.

I would by God just tell them that it is time to make all Florida fans shi* their pants and make all the Florida players regret ever playing the game of football. I'd tell Eric Berry to go freakin' head hunting and tell JC to get his shi* together that it is time to prove he is a man(and then I'd tell him to shave that damn pencil thin mustache that makes him look like someone out of an 80's porno and not a UT VOLS QB) and to get out there and play their hearts out, regardless of the outcome to leave it ALL on the field! I'd tell them to kick ass and take friggin names for next year! By God Go Vols!!! WOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

Exactly. Many coaches have given great pregame speeches and had their teams blown out.

But at the same time there have been some under-dog teams get PUMPED up with the help of a pre-game speech and then go out there and kick ass! Motivation is HUGE when it comes to sports and a good pre-game speech is going to motivate the hell outta everybody!!!

no it doesn't. Most aren't even paying attention.

I don't know, if my HS coach were to tell one like Al Pacino did in Any given Sunday, I just might go out there and kill someone.
Then the speech did little but help you forget about your function. Best speeches generate focus on game keys rather than rah rah.

I've played for both types of coaches and found the calming guy more effective.

I always thought that's what a week's worth of practice is for. If you need to be reminded what to do right before you head on to the field it's not going to matter much what the coach says.

Nothing wrong with a shot of adrenaline, especially in contact sports like football. I want a calming guy before I play a chess match or take the SAT.

the adrenaline works, but do you really think UT players getting ready for UF need it?

IMO, they need to be brought from the clouds and reminded of their specific keys.

i dont think coach is a big one for pre-game speeches. there need not be motivation for this rivalry.

i imagine it would go something like this though...

hit them. and when there down, hit them again. and when they get back up, hit them even harder. and when the game is over, no matter what the score, they will thank god that they only have to play the Volunteers once this year. we are, TENNESSEE!

They are a good football team, we have to dig deep. Let me give you a little history about digging deep.

A few years ago, in this very locker room, and out on that field, there was a captain of our team in 1971, that had to take the football 99 and 1/2 yards. 99 and 1/2 yards for the winning touchdown.

He did.

They like to make a big deal about playing in the Swamp. But the swamp is the same as any other football field. Ok?

There was some really average football teams from the University of Tennessee in that era that still beat Florida, but regardless of that, that doesn't matter. That doesn't mean one thing.

Every game stands on its own. Every play today, if you play with the same fundamentals and assignments that you've been taught, the decisions you make, and on and everything it takes to be a good football player you can win.

I don't know how many people in this country believe we can win. That doesn't really matter either. It only matters waht these men in these uniforms believe. How about taking it to the field and getting it done, like a Tennessee football team is capable of doing? <Players begin to clap>

That's all we're talking about, 60 minutes of something you all know dam* well how to do very well, that you can play with anybody in the country.

You are at a championship level. You have played yourself here. Nobody's given you this opportunity. You have worked, fought, and worked and fought to get here and play the Gators.

We need 60 minutes, to get the greatest win of this season.

The greatest win of this season because the next one's gonna be just as big too.

Those guys put their jocks on just like you do. Those guys like the same girls that you like. Everythings the same.

It gets back down to who wants it the most. It gets down to playing the football game like you are capable of playing. Great fundamentals, great technique, playing the kicking game as WINNERS.

Play on defense as winners 100% of the time, and play on offense as winners 100% of the time.

That doesn't mean that you're gonna be perfect all of the time, you're not. Okay? But you can darn sure lay it on the line every snap of the game. For 60 minutes YOU LAY IT ON THE LINE every play you're out there and YOU WILL WIN this football game in a big way.

When they get the ball defense, you take it away from them. Regardless of what happens we're gonna play 60 minutes of the best Tennessee football of this 2009 season.

<players begin clapping as maxims are read>

Vols run out onto the field and upset the Gators at home.
