Oops. Missed the context of the argument. Yes, USC's defense should be much better as well. I don't think they buy in.
I think Monte had some stature here in Knoxville. To those guys on the west coast he may just be another old geezer. They certainly don't seem motivated or impressed for that matter.
I am a student at UTC and we can have practice with a 2 deep and scout team every day. Have you not heard the coaching staff's concerns about needing to restructure practice because they can't even hold this standard form of practice? These things add up and it's only a matter of time before lack of depth, inexperience, and lack of talent show.
This still doesn't excuse the substitution mishaps.
Lost by a combined 3 points to 2 good staffs. We got blown out by Mike Bobo!
but that happens every week to many teams. Isn't breaking the huddle with 12 a substitution mishap? How many would have noticed we only had 10 if Dooley hadn't pointed it out? How many would notice if it happened in any other game but wasn't pointed out? I understand that people follow UT and think this is unique but it's doesn't seem to be the case.
There are some USC fans who would pay us to take Kiffin back. I wonder if Monte teaches his defensive players not to tackle. UT and USC are both having major problems with missed tackles.
I was waiting to post this until after everybody calmed down after Saturday. I am slowly losing faith in the coaching staff. Last year Georgia did not cross the Tennessee 30-yard against us and this year we turn that mediocre Offensive coaching staff at Georgia into the best in the country with a freshman QB.
Put your anger towards Kiffin aside, last year's staff does not lose that game! Dooley seems over his head and I'm afraid we are in trouble people. I hope I'm wrong but seriously we have no reason to lose to Georgia like that who I think has one of the worst coaching staffs in the SEC (See 45-19 last year).
Too many or too few men on the field for 3 straight games (I bet that has never happened before)? UAB got drilled 42-7 by a mediocre UCF team and they took us to OT! Worst Neyland stadium loss! We are going to be 2-6 heading into October. Thought I would never see the day!
I think that you are overestimating the impact of the coaches and underestimating the impact of the players. Coaches are important, but coaches don't drop punts and miss tackles. Coaches don't block or throw interceptions.
You can say that a well coached team will perform better, but given the amount of time that Dooley has been on the job, can you honestly say that it's his fault that Art Evans can't tackle and Eric Gordon can't hold on to the ball?
It's a recurring problem every week.
Sure, it happens from time to time to other teams.
When, for three frickin weeks, you either line up with 10 men on D, 13 on D, or 10 on D or you have to wait on a special teamer to get on the field, it's a problem. A huge problem.
Breaking the huddle with 12 men happens. Lining up with 10 guys on defense doesn't happen to a team that is well-coached and disciplined.
at the end of last year Kiffin was setting people up for this year by saying we would be really down. statement was made at the end of the bowl game last year. he saw what was going to happen, he knew we would have a losing record. thats why he bolted, stop giving him the benefit of doubt. no one would've had a winning record with this team, no one!
like so many fans, you are expecting to much from this team this year...There is not a coach dead or alive that could pull off the miracle season our fan base is wanting so badly this year.
Like I said for the tenth time, I had us at 5 wins, maybe 6 if we upset LSU or GA. Look at my old posts, I ridiculed those who dreamed of 8 and 9 wins. Its not about the record, 4-8 and being well coached and prepared is different from 4-8 and getting killed and putting 10/13 men on the field in 3 straight games (ref told Nick Reviez who had to tell the coaches v UAB).....
Details Vol fans, you are missing the smalls things. The second Kiffin is mentioned everybody goes off the deep end. I am simply saying there are little issues that are occurring that should not be. Just being blind and saying Dooley is going to turn it around is simply silly. Why are you so sure? 2-6? We have NEVER not won at least 5! Our roster might not be great but schemes, 13 men, 10 men, etc.....details. Not being negative, just being real and honest....I'm just not sure about this staff, that's all!
