Kiffin & Saban recruited Crompton? Offered him a scholly?

I personally think Coleman will end up at Duke next year.. The he went UTC for a year and then will transfer up there next year.. I could be worng about that one too though

why would he go to UTC if Cut wanted him at Duke? He could have sat this year and learned the playbook but didn't. Tells me Cut didn't want him

You know you may be right now that I think about.. I was thinking that he could transfer straight for UTC and wouldn't have to sit out a year at Duke.. For some reason I thought he would get to play as I thought they were a different division, but I believe I am wrong and you are correct now that I really think about it..

No one has ever said he's not talented. He is a very good athlete. Making the jump from high school to college has always been the unknown and Cromp hasn't quite gotten there. Let's hope this is the year.

I have no idea how good or bad Crompton will be this year.

I do firmly believe that he got an undue amount of the blame and thus pressure concerning last year. As Justin said elsewhere, the OL didn't give the QB's time and the receivers could not be counted on to consistently make the right reads and run the right routes.

If I'm not mistaken, part of the "complexity" of Clawson's system was that receivers had to make reads rather than having audibles called specifically to them by the QB. If the QB and WR failed to make the same read then it looked ugly.

Lack of confidence that the WR will be where he's supposed to be can cause a QB to be hesitant throwing the ball which in turn hurts accuracy.

Because of complexity, Clawson's system requires 2 or 3 years to integrate... as it turned out, that was longer than he had. People try to blame him for last year but he was a victim, not a culprit. He was led to believe he'd have time.

I think we all may be pleasently suprised this year..

I was looking back at JC's recruiting pages and noticed that USC & LSU offered Crompton a scholly in 2004 along with many other top D1 schools..

Jonathan Crompton Profile - Football Recruiting

Scout.com: Jonathan Crompton Profile

I now Cutcliff didn't like him due to his "attitude", but I have heard that Cut said that about a lot of players.. not just JC (T. Martin for one).. How many really good QBs does Cutcliff have in the NFL other than the Manning boys? Was Cut the OC the year we won the NC or was it Sanders? I'm not 100% sure of the answer to either question.

Then we have the Clawfense, I'm not sure anyone caught on to that...I'm not saying it is a bad scheme just that nobody seemed to grasp it very well.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Kiffin was in full swing at SC during 2004 due to the fact that that he took over for Chow in 2005...Almost everyone on here believes that Kiffin "knows best" about the players that he has recruited, so how could the entire USC staff (Carroll, Chow, Kiffin and Coach O) have been wrong about JC? I also noticed Saban offered him a scholly at LSU too! People seem to say wait until he get his recruits in here for big things to happen..He will have one of his highly regarded recruits at QB if I'm not mistaken.

I never have been a huge Crompton fan, but he was far from our only issue last year, I honestly think JC might do well (really well) this year..

Here's hoping it was the coaching and not the player last year..I know a lot of the players seem to think it was ....

lmao @ the delusion

There are plenty of highly recruited QB's that don't pan out every year. Usually a QB who has had no success doesn't turn it on during his senior year. Hopefully JC can.

If I remember correctly, Carson Palmer was one.

It's all about getting with someone who is able to teach and put the QB in a situation that he can succeed in. Playing behind an Adkins-coached offensive line inherently negates the latter.

JC is not that bright but he is a strong athlete. IMO, the lack of production from JC is due to the fact that he had didn't have one consistent coach instructing him during his college career. He is what I would deem as "head f**ked". Too many differing styles of coaching has stunted his development and his confidence is shot.

I think if he would have had one coach, he may have not been the second coming but at least he would be a much more solid QB then he is now. That's just how I see it. I am pulling for the kid to get it together this year. Not only because I want to see the Vols win, but he has endured alot and I would like for him to end his career here at Tennessee on a positive.

This was one of the huge differences from Cut's offense. The QB was hand fed the offense from the sidelines (the gopher offense as some called it) where Clawson put the reads on the players.

Actually, Duke already has a pretty good outlook at QB for the next several years. It's not the best of situations for a guy to try to transfer into. This year's starter will be Thad Lewis, who was 2nd team All-ACC a year ago. Redshirt freshman Sean Renfree (one of Cut's first recruits at Duke) will be the backup, and he probably has more talent and potential than Lewis. He'll likely be a lock to be a three-year starter beginning next year. There's two more guys who aren't too shabby - one a true freshman out of CA who's apparently having a good fall camp and a good prospect from NC who has already verballed for the 2010 class.
