I think we all may be pleasently suprised this year..

I was looking back at JC's recruiting pages and noticed that USC & LSU offered Crompton a scholly in 2004 along with many other top D1 schools..

Jonathan Crompton Profile - Football Recruiting

Scout.com: Jonathan Crompton Profile

I now Cutcliff didn't like him due to his "attitude", but I have heard that Cut said that about a lot of players.. not just JC (T. Martin for one).. How many really good QBs does Cutcliff have in the NFL other than the Manning boys? Was Cut the OC the year we won the NC or was it Sanders? I'm not 100% sure of the answer to either question.

Then we have the Clawfense, I'm not sure anyone caught on to that...I'm not saying it is a bad scheme just that nobody seemed to grasp it very well.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Kiffin was in full swing at SC during 2004 due to the fact that that he took over for Chow in 2005...Almost everyone on here believes that Kiffin "knows best" about the players that he has recruited, so how could the entire USC staff (Carroll, Chow, Kiffin and Coach O) have been wrong about JC? I also noticed Saban offered him a scholly at LSU too! People seem to say wait until he get his recruits in here for big things to happen..He will have one of his highly regarded recruits at QB if I'm not mistaken.

I never have been a huge Crompton fan, but he was far from our only issue last year, I honestly think JC might do well (really well) this year..

Here's hoping it was the coaching and not the player last year..I know a lot of the players seem to think it was ....

Cut left before the bowl game to coach at Ole Miss. He was the OC for the entire season and the SECCG.

What other UT QB had success in the NFL during the 90's? None.

I think JC will have a big year as well, but you need to cut Cutcliffe some slack.

I think you actually need to look at what QB's did he coach that got drafted by the NFL.

Shula, Manning(s) all were early first rounders in a 8 year period.

Ainge and Martin were drafted in later rounds. So he had 5 straight QB's that were at least drafted in the NFL and 3 that were in the top 5 of the first round. Not too bad if you ask me.

I also think you need to look at UT success in the past 16 years and see thier winning percentage with Cut and without. Cut would talk about attitude issues sometimes to push a player. His practices were very physical as well.

There are plenty of highly recruited QB's that don't pan out every year. Usually a QB who has had no success doesn't turn it on during his senior year. Hopefully JC can.

JC was considered an elite QB. (top 5 in his class)

At the time he was not considered a project, or a big risk to take.

He has one more chance to fill the void of his college career. Good luck Jon, heres to a great SR year.

That's right.. I couldn't remember how the NC game played out..Thanks for the info..

It was not a knock on Cut in anyway..I'm just trying to wrap my mind around the debacle last year and the fact JC struggled so mightly.. Thanks again for the info

Since his play has flat out sucked we're going back to who recruited him for insight on his ability?

It was in no way meant as a knock on cut..He did great things at UT.. as I posted above I'm just trying to wrap my mind around everything.. I may need to edit it if it came off that way..:good!:

I'm not really knocking Cut either I think he's a good OC and a good QB coach. His reputation was built on two guys that were going to be great regardless of who coached them.

Cut's best work, IMO, was the turnaround in Ainge.

I will say that he left UT without a decent QB after 98 and 2007. Martin returned in 99 but had no backup worth a damn and look at how Stephens and Coleman turned out.

They are always busts in recruiting and so far, Crompton has been a bust. Hopefully, he can change it this year and be a successful QB.

If CLK and co. adhere to the K.I.S.S mantra(keep it simple, stupid), ol' JC can and will be a capable QB.

I'm not 100% sure what you mean to be honest.. I'm hoping that Kiff can get all the good things out JC that he saw when he was recruiting him.. I personally think he will and JC will turn it on this year.. I could be wrong though.. I may have wished I never had that thought at the end if the year, but at least I/we have hope.. :dunno:

I personally think Coleman will end up at Duke next year.. The he went UTC for a year and then will transfer up there next year.. I could be worng about that one too though
