Kiffin/Reaves @ NCAA

Let me begin by saying I am not a Lame Kiffin fan and never will be. However, don't be surprised if Lame is low key on Saturday before the NCAA. I work in LA (and live in Vegas!) and have observed how much he has changed over the past year. Low key is his new MO. Here's link to a Bill Plaschke's article in yesterday's LA Times. Read down and it discusses the Tennessee situation.

You may be right. I think the Tenn. event rammed home to him that he will be watched, and I do mean watched. If he sneezed and it came out as ahsu rather than achoo, he would not only be without a job but even the Drake Universities and Where's That Community Colleges wouldn't want to hire him. It's not that he left the UT but the manner in which he did it. The bad taste is not only in the UT's mouth but many other colleges and universities too. I think he realized belatedly just how much self-damage he did to himself.
This the low profile. I'm thinking more and more you may be right because if he throws us under the bus, it would give Pat Haden cause to not trust him with the USCw program.

Has any one thought about getting to the truth, taking our punishment and getting on with some football?

Reaves would be the guy to worry about. Lane has about 3mil reasons to keep his trap shut. Reaves has a mediocre NM job and unless I am missing something is the fall guy for the hostesses. Not sure what penalties he might endure if all blame goes to him but even NM wouldn't want a guy that can't talk to recruits. With him being in the "Fam" and being a risk for Kiffin I have to assume Kiffin is hedging bets and making as nice as he can. Prison rules would say you shut it and plead the fith then start rebuilding.

The whole thing with Kiffin more less sizes up the last 3 years of Tennessee football. It has been not kind and at times it's been plain rough and really uneasy to digest. Really I guess it is time to move on and give forgiveness where it's needed and just get back to playing Tennessee football.

Clarification: I'm no Kiffin fan, understand that loud and clear.

Comment on TrionzVol05;5072685 post:

Too late for any regrets. Vicious fans who paid for a billboard in California, fans who sent gross and basically unflattering messages to LK & Co., and other rather public jilted girlfriend behavior, don't be surprised if Kiffin uses the NCAA meeting as payback. A fair number of people on the board and elsewhere tried to admonish fans that Kiffin was gone and just forget he was ever here. People wouldn't listen, UT fans' vendetta made national sports news and it went on and on and on. I hope Kiffin rises above this and not throw us under the bus but if he doesn't and screws us more, those who couldn't let go that he left us, you reap what you sow.

huh , fans reaction doesnt have nothing to do with kiffins actions. If he throws UT under the bus then hes still in bigger trouble. The entire reason for the football program being in front of the AA is him.

Is OK, I don't expect certain mindsets to understand the realities of human nature.

What you say is true. I do offer this: Never underestimate the stupidity of people.

I never said NCAA would punish the fans (really dumb idea), but if Kiffin badmouths the UT and causes NCAA to bring the hammer down on us (the UT football program), his motivation may be payback for the fans who couldn't stop acting like jilted girlfriends. He'd hurt the fans by hurting their team. I think this was the obvious train of thought. NCAA punish fans??? ABSURD!

Quite honestly, as much as I despise Kiffin, I tend to think he is smart enough, or at least has smart enough lawyers to keep his mouth shut. He would be an absolute fool to allow his personal vendetta with fans (which I really doubt he has or cares about) to potentially bring his entire NCAA career crashing down. He would be best-served to keep his talking to a minimum with lots of "yes sirs" and "no sirs" if he wants to avoid any further personal collateral. He also better hope Mike Hamilton is a forgiving man, because that man wields the most power in these entire proceedings.

And it could be that Pat Haden sat him down and told him if he pulls that crap there he won't get a chance to run away in the night. :shades:

Yeah, Kiffin has so much clout and a sterling record that I'm sure the NCAA guys will be kicking each other under the table and LTAO every time he speaks to them from now on...

There's no way for Lane to "screw" UT without getting himself fired at USC.

I have heard that MH had people keeping close eye on Kiffin and may have reported hostessgate. This would for football show some instituitional control. Forget it with basketball we will go on major probation with certain loss of scholarships and recruiting restrictions. I think we will not have a post season ban however. We will be way down shouldn't really have made NCAA tourney last season. Without Tobias and Hopson a losing season could become a harsh reality. I really have faith in couch Martin that he will be able to turn program around in a couple of years. My wife tells me this is the first time for major probation for UT, I hope they consider our long history of compliance when they hand out sanctions.

They should televise these hearings.

I agree. But why would NCAA start being above board with the execution of the their process, when it could do everything in the cover of darkness?

Their policy is Do as I say, not as I do. Hence punishing programs for hiding things, while opearting as a secret cabal when it comes to disciplining programs.
