Kiffin proves himself against Bama

"It's a game we shoulda won,'' Lane Kiffin said on his post-game radio show after the loss to Bama. "It's a game we'll win next year.''

Contrast that to Nick Saban's immediate on-field comments: "I think we were tired. We played like we were tired.''

love it. absolutely love it.

First I have to say y'all played a great game today. Us not so much. But I do remember a lot of y'all saying all week that you think the week off would help the Vols and with Bama playing some tough games the last two weeks then maybe that would give the Vols an edge. Why can't you just admit that it did give them an edge just not enough of one to pull off the victory against a better team and not bash our coach. No offense but its fairly obvious y'all don't have the same caliber of players we do yet. Kiffin will recruit well but today you just got beat by a better team that was tired which is what y'all have been saying all week.[/I]

Hard to disagree with that. We threw our best punch on offense, and defense. And played dead on Special Teams. UT outplayed a better Bama team, but they pulled out the play when they needed it.

Game went totally different than what I figured. I picked UT to win 14-13. Wasn't far off. A couple feet actually.

Just suggesting this, but perhaps some of Bama's bad play was because UT outplayed them at every position save for Nose Tackle and Place Kicker, and that with less overall talent?

Amazing game. Enjoy this year's wins (and possible championship) while the NCAA lets you. See you guys in Knoxvegas in 364 days!

Tired sounds a lot like the flu excuse Florida had. Truth is your team got outplayed. Bama's so called depth advantage never came into play. Tennessee owned the second half and pretty much beat the stuffing out of Bama in between the hashes this game. I hope Saban gave Tiffin the game ball or cut it in half and gave some to Cody.

So Bama was tired and Florida had the flu. What's Spurrier's excuse going to be when we beat him next week?

That's one thing you have to respect about Spurrier, he doesn't make excuses when he loses, much less when he wins.

For some crazy reason I expected Bama fans, with their egos, would be well above the UF level of making excuses for a win. Guess not. I respect Bama....but I do NOT believe you were the "better" team. I think we are extremely evenly matched, and it was proven today ON THE FIELD. You can say you were tired or whatever, that is fine.....but your team is also EXTREMELY deeper than us at EVERY position (other than maaaaaaybe RB). I believe your depth advantage more than makes up for being "tired". Instead of pulling an Urban Cryer, why not give credit where it is due? UT's players and coaches had a LOT more to do with Bama not scoring a TD and giving up their first TD in 11 quarters, than fatigue ever did. I guess you can tell yourself whatever makes you feel better and sleep well at night......but like our coach said, the game happens in our house next year. You got out played by, and beat, the least talented and deep UT team you will see for a LOOOOOONG time. I would suggest enjoying it while ya can. :)

Now go rest up and kick Florida's ass when you get the chance for us!

Ok, how come we keep 'out playing' so many teams, yet keep losing? We've become the best excuse makers I've ever seen. 'You just wait till next year' is a losers song. And we're 3-4 losers. Nothing to brag about.

Go home. If you can't see the improvement in this team and that the future is bright, then you are blind.

His quote after Nebraska took a knee in the 96 Fiesta Bowl is to this day one of my all-time favorites.

I've always liked Spurrier. You can't help it.

You truly cannot see the forest for the trees? This is a team with almost no depth. This same team minus some trouble makers kicked off, that last year simply quit during several games including Wyoming. This same team has been in every game. Both players and coaches have improved every single week. We have been within a score to beat two #1 teams this year. They have brought back the fire and intensity we are used to here at TN.

Yeah we are on the bottom of the win column but we knew it would take awhile to bring it around. But the future is so bright watching this staff work that everyone that has a brain realizes it will not take as long as expected.

Think of it this year as having sex with the plain girl down the street. She will work her butt off to make you happy but sometimes you will be disappointed in the end results. Next year and thereafter, you get Mariah Carey. It's called, Antici.........pation. :salute:

" But anyone who watched Saturday's football game with a shred of objectivity can tell you what happened in Bryant-Denny stadium: Lane Kiffin out-coached Nick Saban."

looks to me like we got our money's worth out of this coaching staff, which isn't even the highest paid in the SEC.

Are you, perchance, a Chicago Cubs fan?

Close....this year is like the plain girl you hook up with regularly....practicing your techinques so that when you get the shot at the really HOT chick (next season) you know how to curl her toes.

When was it exactly that Tennessee ever had a lead in this game? They "owned" the second half? That's some ownership, when you're trailing the entire game and somehow are in control. That's a new one on me. Bama led this game 12-3 with under four minutes to play, and UT made an unbelievable comeback. I'd say UT owned the last three minutes of the game... but unfortunately for the Vols, not the last four seconds. Your team played a great game, but you didn't own anything.

I expect us to win the rest of our games. If we don't win them, then we aren't playing up to our potential.

Totally agree.

We should have beaten Auburn, Bama, UCLA. Kind of makes me sick, but our coaches are awesome

This is what I meant when I said it would take some time for the new staff to get to know its personnel...like, a half of a season, maybe?

Happens like that....the right people are getting into the right places.

Who is now in the right place? We now have back some injured WRs. Other than that, we're the same.

The only loser here is you.

This is still one of UT's least talented teams in its history and we had no business even competing with the #1 team in the nation, much less doing it twice on the road.

Just wait until we get better talent here. These close losses will turn into wins. This staff will not be outcoached often.

It's more than filling out a lineup card, as you are aware...different players have special attributes...schemes aren't only devised for opponents, they are also planned to take advantage of your team's strength(s).

Hardesty running routes downfield, for example, or Stocker emerging as go-to clutch receiver.....

Those are just a couple that jump out....

I want to be there when Teague has his breakout performance. That kid has the quicks.
