I am one of the people who thinks crompton blew the game for us but did anyone else get the feeling that we ran the ball poorly due to repetitive playcalling? I know the oline didnt play well but we ran it up the middle or to the left side EVERY TIME. Nothing to the right or pitch plays toward the end of the game. Exhibit A, the 4th and goal from the 1 why not pitch it or somehow trust crompton to complete 1 pass and not run it up the middle. Thoughts?

Couldn't do anything else. You saw what happened when we tried to throw. Crompton gets in his own head so bad :/

The play calling got us in trouble. Even I'm smart enough to figure out that they were going to run on EVERY first down. Then again, the one time we passed on first down, right after half time, Crompton threw a pic. I wanna know why Nick Stephens didn't get a shot. At least Fulmer would have pulled him. Crompton had all four of our turnovers in the game, so why not try someone else?

agreed on that 4th and goal UCLA knew what to expect so i was hoping on 4th that they would sub in a fresher scat back (OKU) and pitch right!

I have to agree with this post. If you go back and look at the end of the game when it was 4th and one. Everyone of UCLA's players knew we were going to run. If we would have went play action I have pretty good that we would have scored. I just really don't understand the play calling.

Well, when your QB puts the ball on the ground and throws 5 INTs in 2 games, you're pretty limited to what you can do.

The play calling at the clear lack of any confidence from head coach to the QB. And that cost UT dearly.

I'm definitely questioning the 4th down call. However, poor line and quarterback play cost us that game.

Kudos to the defense. They came up huge despite being placed in terrible situations all day.

Agreed? 100% This looked liked Sanders, Cutcliffe, Clawson, and Fulmer all in 1. Ok, maybe not that bad. There was no going down the field, (cause we haven't got a QB), the running game wasn't doing anything today, (they knew what was coming because we don't have a QB who can pass more than 5 yards), and the defense is just awesome. PLEASE GET A QB this week. GO VOLS!!!!

Hey easy there.......we need to watch some film before we make any judgements on play calling.

yep use oku or Brown's speed on a sweep. Defense is ready to play some football, Offense not so much.

Didn't have much choice. Crompton dug too large a hole. A pass play could have resulted in a sack and more long yardage situations, or another turnover...we obviously couldn't afford any of those outcomes.

Had to pound it, protect the ball, and keep our down/distance reasonable.

Crompton only played a part. Gerald Jones should have never stepped on the field today, McClendon has shown how overrated he was out of HS and the rest of the line was also pretty effing terrible.

The only one i question is on 3rd and goal to BB up the gut 1. BB isin't the guy i want out there 2. if he gets the ball he should go to the outside

Sweep, N-gun, stretch play...the list goes on and on for plays that require nothing from crompton!

NO..3 yards on 2 plays and we win!! Thats not a deep hole!! N-gun, stretch play, pitch...plenty of plays that my girlfriend could run at QB to get a TD

granted we ran better on sweeps today but 8 times out of 10 we score on that play and a healthy Vlad prob would have got the upper hand but instead he has little push with the achilles and got knocked back...it was less than a yard short.

the only thing i was disappointed in the plays was too many cross the body sideline throws and not enough middle of the field plays like last wk. The play calling was clearly handicapped due to lack of trust in QB in 2nd half.

I expect Crompton to start vs FLA but you never know because Kiffin clearly didnt like the look in Cromptons eyes to let him loose

You can't fault the playcalling 100%. Saying "oh well if we would have pitched it we would have scored a td," is questionable because our like played like **** today. Had we run a sweep like so many people have suggested there was a good chance a lb could have gotten through and blown it up in the backfield. Then we wouldn't have gotten that safety then we really would have been dead in the water. Yes some of the calling looked repetetive and predictable and that is the coaches fault. But it's hard to blame the coaches when the players don't do their jobs. My question is why didn't we put some more receivers on the line to at least force the defense to not stack 8 in the box. Or run off tackle out of the shotgun?

It should have never come to fourth and goal. Kiffin went all in at about 4 minutes which was a bad decision...kick the field goal and play for the tie!
