Kiffin on if Butch's program is in the right direction

Kiffin beat Vandy with two sub 300 lb walk ons in the O line and a flaky QB that even Cutcliffe could not develop.

Jones could not beat Vandy with an O line that he had spent 4 years recruiting and developing, and a senior QB specifically picked and groomed to fit his system.

Against Derek Dooley, Will Muschamp, and Vanderbilt, Butch Jones is 2-6.

Lane Kiffin is not.

I honestly don't know, but how many times did Kiffin coach against those three, as head coach?

Kiffin never beat Florida, in fact he lost by the same amount of points that Butch won by. Butch also beat VT by almost as many as Kiffin lost to them by.

Know what that means? Not a damn thang.

That didn't answer my question.

We all know Butch should have NEVER lost that game, but he did. It has been discussed.

What is your point? Honestly, I don't know.

And why do you keep quoting yourself?

Kiffin threw together a patchwork and somehow got us to bowl eligibility. He suffered a mild upset to UCLA in what most of us saw as a revenge opportunity after they beat us in OT the year before but then he balanced it out with the Halloween upset over SC. We were in it against some teams that should've run us off the field. He even left enough that Dooley made a bowl the next year. All that said, he did so much long term damage that I cannot credit him for what little good he accomplished.

Kiffin beat Vandy with a miracle DEFENSIVE touchdown that inspired him to assault his starting QB...awesome X's and O's right there!

Ole Miss and not even a heartbeat in that barely earned bowl appearance. I can see how that's waves better than our current 3 bowl wipeout victory streak. :)

Who gives a crap about what Kiffin says about anything?

Failure as a head coach.

One thing you can say though, he had more attention going for the program than anyone since (and before).

Before you haters chime in, Tennessee was primarily known (at that time) for the Fulmer Cup.

No.

Just no.

What Tennessee was best known for at that time was the 1998 national championship, and secondarily by the Fulmer-Spurrier rivalry which pretty much defined the SEC while they were both leading their programs.

Only azzhat trolls and particularly pedantic fans of rival schools thought first of the Fulmer Cup back then. IknoxvolsI, you know I firmly believe you are both. :good!:

82, why the insults?

No, CLK was bringing attention to the program. That attention translated into excitement and a buzz around the program.

To me, I didn't like the way he was doing it but it worked. That wasn't the Tennessee way of doing things. All of you talk this and that about recruiting and recruiting classes so, look at what he did.

You're fooling no one, IknoxvolsI. No, not even the Mods who are leaving you be because you're putting up a facade of being a Vols fan. As long as you keep your trolling under control you'll be left alone, but that doesn't mean they're fooled for a minute. Neither are the rest of us.

break/break

Kiffin was a cancer for us, just as he is a cancer for every program he touches. Saban's iron rule kept the cancer mostly contained while he was at Bama, but the dude is still a sickness.

He did nothing good for our program. Not a single thing.

Now 82, you know you were on that Lane Train when it came through!

Probably you mattress that was burnt too, wasn't it?

I was still on active duty back then, so had no time to pay attention to football (even Vols football) other than watching the games on Saturday. Honestly didn't know enough about him to have an opinion either way.

What train were you on that year? The Urban Meyer train, right? Gator chomp, and all that?

Not meee! I was still smarting about the C.j, Juicy, Chris Leak deal. Which, I thought it was funny how Juicy went public saying they were no longer interested in us (after Fulmer with drew the offer). I do have to say I watched the NC game and respected Meyer when he gave Zook credit for those recruits.

Back to CLK, he wasn't one of us and he didn't act like us. To me, that was a turn off. But, when the heat started coming down, Hamilton stated he was fine with what he was doing because "it was putting Tennessee back on the map". Not my words.
