Meyer and Saban have set the bar.

The days of a coach having 4-5 years to turn a program around are long gone.

Two years to show drastic improvement. Not to get where Florida and Alabama are. Don't be ridiculous. We won't be able to hire a coach that's worth it if we're firing coaches after two years.

I think in 5 years Kiffin will not be HC @ UT. He will either be gone to the NFL or be fired.

IMO

If he can turn the offense around and keep the defense at this level, then we can compete with and beat anyone. Good thing he is an offensive guy.

It took Meyer 2 years to win a NC.

Saban is 12-0 in his second year.

Fair or not, the bar has been raised.

IMO the benchmark is 8-5. He needs to do better then that consistently or he's no better then Fulmer.

It takes 3 years minimum for a coach to filter his guys into the program and get them some experience. Two years is just unrealistic.

I may agree if Kiffin was inheriting a competent QB and/or a national championship winning defense, but...

Yikes!... I'm not a Kiffen supporter but this is unfair. It's easier for Florida to reload on talent and Alabama is this freakish mix of a few talented underclassman and a senior at the most important positions. It will take longer then two years be truly competitive nationally. I'd be happy if the vols were at least competitive over the next two years with a good trend in the win/loss columns.

There is not set record to use as a benchmark. He has to be competitive, and he has to win SEC titles.

No it hasn't. Ron Zook recruited great talent and they had a great college QB that year. Tons more talent that UT has now. We don't have a QB.

Alabama had two ridiculous recruiting classes are Saban worked a miracle by winning with all those young guys. Kiffin is no Saban.

Keep your sour grapes off the forums and go cry on your Fulmer shrine.

He's got 1 year to get this team ready to win the east. I'll accept 8 wins in 09, but if we don't reach 9-10 in 2010, get his ass out.

I believe Kiffin is going to be very successful within two years , the only thing i am worried about Kiffin is that he will leave for the NFL again. We will see what happens.

Agreed! He will be expected to compete for the SEC Championship in the 2nd year or else his seat will get extremely hot. If it doesn't get hot at this point, MH's will.

So if he doesn't double our win total in two years, you want him out? Yet, you probably wanted to keep Fulmer.

Again, your opinion is irrelevant. You still believe we made a mistake firing Fulmer.

Didn't say we made a mistake. I said we could have done a lot better. Fulmer>Kiffin. Has Kiffin even won anything? He took in a great USC offense, and coached QBs at Fresno and CSU for a while, then flunked at Oakland. What kind of resume is that?

If you're really expecting a two year turnaround, then be ready to be disappointed.

Meyer and Saban are exceptions, not the norm

both too had a great deal of pieces in place when they got there

Fulmer has had 3 since 2005, and you fulmerites wanted to continue to give him more.

But when Kiffin comes in, he doesn't even get enough time to get his own players in? He gets some other regimes recruits for his first year, and then ONE year of his own recruits? So if his own guys don't produce their FRESHMAN YEAR, you want him gone?

Wow, just wow.
