From several (sometimes reliable) sources, It is appears that Hamilton wanted JJ dismissed. Only, as speculated, pleas from Orgeron, JJ's family and possibly some of the football team convinced Kiffin to go to bat for Jackson to Hamilton....sucessfully, it appears.

IMO, this decision by Kiffin was gutsy and risky. The easy thing would have to satisfy the media and canned all three freshmen involved in the Pilotgate incident. Many will say he is keeping JJ only because he was a 5* recruit. But remember the two student-athletes he dismissed were not exactly walkons.

Hopefully, this will work out favorably not only for JJ but Kiffin and the team. I would suggest that Lane appoint a Big Brother that Jackson has to report to daily.......... someone like a Eric Berry or Chris Walker. I would also recommend that he that bring in sucessful ex-Vol mentors that are community leaders. I'm thinking of guys like Kelsy Finch.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Charges dropped. On what basis do you kick him off the team? this is getting silly.

If Jackson has the talent to play in the NFL, he can do so and be set for life, financially. If he doesn't have the talent, he will have to find another way to make a living.

However, if he has NFL talent, Jackson is the only person who can determine what he makes of himself. The big brother idea may work, and work well, but in the end it up to Jackson. He's gotta choose what he wants in life.

And if it's important to him, he has the opportunity to get an education at UT. That should have some value.

IMHO

I agree and I think more may latter come out about whether UT pressured th DA to drop the charges or not........which has been discussed in the national media. I am inclined to think in this era, being a star athlete or celebrity makes the prosecution more likely to press charges, example Martha Stewart.

I am curious about your sources that said MH wanted him gone. Especially since you previously said that you rely on VN for your info.

Everybody and their dog has a source nowadays it seems...

You don't need a source to understand why things went with JJ the way that they did.

Edwards and Nuke were id'd by the people in the car as being the ones who tried to commit the robbery. JJ wasn't, hence why he was kept on the team but barred from activities pending the results of the investigation.

With the way these supposed "sources" are being thrown around left & right, I'd love to see Freak implement the word replacement filter, so "source(s)" becomes "imaginary friend(s)".

charges dropped, how can you kick him off the team
gotta believe in the process
if he was guilty, he would be charged

He was basically suspended 2 games for hanging out with stupid people. Media types are always pointing out that you are innocent until proven guilty when it comes to much more heinous crimes. It seems that a lot of people want him kicked off and hanged just to set an example. Well, with no legal action being pursued and having already spent 2 games at home watching on TV just for being at the wrong place, I don't see how he gets suspended further.

Some people fail to bring up the other two that actually did something are gone. It's not like Kiffin is letting people run over him. Jackson has been cleared legally!!!! Accept that!

This is the best idea I've read in a long time.

You changed the OP but have yet to cite any sources.

Serveral sources say that you are wrong about what MH wanted. (see how easy it is to make stuff up.)

Its done.. Doesn't matter what anyone thinks, the decision is made. Don't need a source for that. I'm glad he's back and hope he learned a valuable lesson from all of this.

Anyone who thinks Mike Hamilton could pressure Randy Nichols into doing anything doesn't know either guy.

If an athletic directors lacks the confidence in his football coach's ability to handle matters like these, he needs to replace him immediately.

classic case of guilty until proven innocent. And now that he's been proven innocent, He should still be kicked off the team?

If the charges were dropped, that means a judge said that jackson did nothing wrong. Who in the heck do you think you people are to judge whether or not he can stay on the team or not? A possible failed drug test and being out at 2:00 in the morning is no reason to pull his scholarship and kick him off the team. If he is innocent in the judges eyes, that should be enough for everyone.

Since no one really knows what went on "Behind Closed Doors", all opinions are just that until proven otherwise. I imagine there were a few conversations between Hamilton and Kiffin on JJ's reinstatement. At this point, the op has a much validity as do you, even if it is contrary to your opinion. Give the guy a break, maybe he knows something, maybe he doesn't. Posting something on here is an automatic call to arms.
Happy Turkey Day. :)

He made an outlandish assertion and failed to cite a source when requested. He has previously said that being in Bama his only source for info is VN. Forgive my cynicism.
