Sorry, I just didn’t want you to be disappointed if no one said anything. I actually don’t get why people get so emotional about Kiffin, in either direction. He’s a good, not great, coach who left us a bad spot back in his younger days. Past that, he’s pretty entertaining to listen to, almost like Spurrier back in his days.

Lane is having a blast at the expense of other SEC teams fans. I never want LK back as our coach…but I can certainly appreciate his humor and deadpan gigging he dishes out. He desperately wants people taking his disposition seriously…THAT, to his personality, IS humor! For me, it’s entertaining to watch.

Again, his choices led to him not having better opportunities. He blew the opportunity here and if he settles into a Mike Leach-esque role in the lower echelon on the SEC, that's not a bad career by any means but he had chances and he blew it.

He's not a bad coach. He's a good coach who makes lousy decisions. Think Sark except Sark learned from his mistakes and look at TX before Sark got there. There's the contrast with Kiffin. Kiffin screwed up and never really came back. Sark screwed up and will possibly get his Natty this year.

He latched onto Lane Kiffin, who was going to be without a job after being fired by Oakland.

The comedy of errors was only going to get worse. Kiffin arrived ignoring Tennessee’s traditions, posting pictures of SoCal athletes, and declaring that he would turn Tennessee into the USCw of the SEC. One season and a handful of NCAA violations later, Kiffin left in the middle of the night to take his “dream job” at USCw. Then, he and the staff that went with him tried to poach recruits they’d brought to Tennessee.

The lack of character was on full display. His humbling and “maturation” over the ensuing years has not improved the perceptions of many, including me.

Sadly, UT’s administration follies continued until the hiring of Donde Plowman. Finally, UT has righted the ship. I am fully in the present and looking towards the future, one that shows no sign of rehashing the Kiffin experience.

*Edit: As has been averred, formal offers were not made, but some parties deflected interest, inducing Hamilton to move on. Media was not kind regarding Hamilton firing Fulmer before season’s end and asking Fulmer to coach the remaining games. The stage for the search was askew from the get go.

I figure he had some friends in high places. Tennessee hired Kiffin rather quickly.

How many other coaches at a young age had the advantages Kiffin had? Taken under Saban's wing and got an SEC HC job very early.

He had advantages and he blew it. Now, I doubt an SEC team with a chance of a Natty wants to take him. He's not a bad coach, like Mike Leach wasn't a bad coach, but he's not a high value coach serious schools like LSU or Bama or UT will take a chance on now.

Apples to apples, he's an SEC coach and that means he's better than most P4 coaches but given where he was when he was younger, he missed the next gear.
