Every point you score against Alabama and Florida is worth a million of these Kiffin comments.
On the flip side, every point they score more than you will likely be viewed by some as punishment.
Know what is a bit ironic -- and this is not particularly for or against one or the other of us -- for the last few years a lot of the fans of the old guard in the SEC institution-wise have berated Florida fans for being upstarts with no tradiiton. In a sense, Kiffin is in the same position as a coach that Florida has been as a program. New, brash, untested, but willing to improvise and take some chances.
We'll see if Kiffin can measure up to the same level of success that Florida has achieved and most important that UT fans are going to demand. Going to be fun to watch because I definitely don't think he's going to be boring.
First, Spurrier backed up the bravado and, fortunately or unfortunately, that makes a difference.
Second, while Spurrier was a loudmouth, I don't remember him calling anyone a "cheater." At least not while he was at UF.
Third, there is a big difference between saying we're gonna beat some decrepit system or that some coach is not prepared versus explicitly saying that a coach cheated.
Had Kiffin just said that Meyer was texting or calling the guy during his visit to UT and that it was sleazy or something like that, fine. But when you say it is a violation of the rules, you are turning him in right then and there, and that he cheated ....
You better be right.
I guess it depends on what it looks like. I mean, if UT comes out fighting and are simply outmanned for a year, that's not going to be seen by most as a reflection on Kiffin. One of his upsdies appears to be that he and his staff are going to be able to recruit very well, so that's not the issue.
But if they make lots of mistakes, turnovers, penalties, if they are out of shape, get winded, lose games they should win, look like crap on special teams, then that will be the tell tale sign of things to come.
Look, I have no clue whether Kiffin can manage this or not. For all I know, in a few years UT could very well be a consistent competitor for the BCS (or whatever its called at that time). Kiffin could become the most sought after coach of all time after leading UT back to prominence.
All I am saying is let's not give him credit for things he hasn't done yet. Cautious optimism, not blind faith, would seem to be the order of the day. And Kiffin's comments the other day will not score a single point on the field come September.

That's not brash, its bragging. He's tooting his own horn, giving himself a pat on the back.
Like I say, if he backs it up with wins, great. But if through 2010 you are still looking up at UF, 'bama, LSU, and UGA, my guess is that a lot of you will not be nearly as delighted with his "brash talk."
Its less Kiffin and more the blind loyalty to a guy who has yet to coach a single snap for you. Granted, compared to the dead fish for a coach you had before this guy is infinitely more entertaining and you want to be optimistic.
I'm just saying that he is setting everyone up for a pretty big fall if he does not deliver.
I'm pretty sure you are inaccurate LG sayong pat gave him kudos.... All she said was all fl was talking about him. I would bet she didn't condone it unless I missed something

There is a dangerous trend emerging here. Having a chip on your shoulder is one thing, and that's okay. And even making a mistake and fessing up, that's fine.
But taking cheap shots and then having people excuse it? Or worse yet applaud you for it?
This is taking on a new and very ugly life of its own at UT. Hope someone has the smarts to let Kiffin know that, despite what they may be saying, it is not cool to outright literally call another coach a "cheater" and be wrong about it.
Its not cute anymore and if he mistakenly thinks that he's now given license to offend by false accusation, then I suspect it will be UT that regrets it, not the rest of the conference.
This part is most definitely true. While expectations will be somewhat muted this year for your team, if you get blown out by Florida, Alabama, UGA, and lose to someone like Vandy or Kentucky, there are going to be a lot of Vols fans who look back on this moment as a harbinger of ill-preparedness rather than hopeful bravado.
