http://web1.ncaa.org/web_files/AMA/recruiting_calendars/DI/Text/Football.pdf That is a link to recruiting calendar.

January 11-14: Dead Period, though staff are allowed to have contact with recruits who have been admitted for mid-year enrollment.

This happened on the 12th.
1. Ogre called current UT EEs -- violation
2. Ogre (and others?) called other UT recruits. This is a dead period. -- violation
3. Ogre used a UT phone -- violation
4. Monte Kiffin mentioned a recruit's name on the radio yesterday, 1/14 -- violation.
5. Lane Kiffin did the same -- violation
6. Lane denied Ogre calling when he knew it was true -- violation.

Definition: A "Dead Period," as the name implies, is a time when nearly all recruiting activity is temporarily shut down.
During a dead period, coaches cannot:

-- Make in-person recruiting contacts

Which he did in offering them to USC.

Question is, were they employed by anyone at the time? If not officially at USC yet, who gets in trouble with the NCAA? These weasels will find a way out of it.

If they are acting on behalf of USC, then they would be liable if a violation occurred. Extra benefits violations can be committed by others besides employees.

During a dead period aren't you allowed to call recruits once over the course of the period? So calling UT's recruits isn't a violation unless he did it more than once.

Allvol is right that who they are acting on behalf of matters. Not only that, but if they're not officially part of USC's staff wouldn't recruiting at all be against the rules since only USC's coaches are allowed to recruit?

There were definitely some violations, although I'm not sure if any of them are major. We already know about mentioning recruits by name.

But would they be anything other than secondary violations? I think we all know how those f***sticks feel about those.

I think some of those are big time, i.e. them contacting another school's EE's without permission.

They said that on Basillio today. His sidekick said he just got a text saying that and Tony made him double check and it turned out to be what they got slapped with from the 1980s.

Hopefully they will get a lot worse than that...

The article^ going around is from 1982. Easy mistake to make, though.

It's all fine and dandy when Kiffin was committing violations at UT, correct? Running what basically was a brothel, talking about unsigned recruits on the radio, can go on and on. He's scum.

The fact that USC is under investigation right now, really makes me question why Kiffin would go there. They have to be bordering on lack of institutional control with the OJ Mayo thing they admitted to in combination with Reggie Bush/Joe McKnight. Of course, Lane's IQ is in the high 60's so I guess he probably did not think about that. I hope the NCAA hits them hard. This Reggie Bush investigation has been going on for 3 years.
