Kiffin accuses Meyer of recruiting violation

Poor Lane is so in over his head and he doesn't even realize it yet. For you guys' sake I just hope he doesn't land you all on probation.

Do you guys not get that people are saying exactly the sort of things about Kiffin that they said about Urban Meyer a few years ago?

I'm not saying he's going to have that kind of immediate success, but it's just weird to hear this coming from the same guys who were defending Meyer back then.

Can't we all just get along. Everyone just needs to hush their mouths and leave it on the field. Jesus Christ, are we 12

Tell that to your COACH.

Florida is saying that Kiffin needs to issue an apology. They are also is saying that Kiffin is the one in violation of the rules.

“There was no rule violation and we have confirmed this with
Southeastern Conference. It is obvious that Coach Kiffin doesn’t know
that there is not a rule precluding phone contact with a prospect during
an official visit on another campus during a contact period.

"His allegations are inappropriate, out of line and, most importantly,
totally false. It is completely unfair to Urban Meyer, our coaching
staff, our football program and our institution. The appropriate action
at this time in my opinion is for Coach Kiffin to make a public apology.
His comments not only slandered our coach, but he violated SEC rules by
publicly criticizing another coach and institution."

Tell that to Steve Spurrier. This is hilarious, coming from a UF official directed at somebody from Tennessee.

You guys are absolutely devoid of irony, aren't you?

Spurrier coaches where???

What about your boy Lance Thompson up there making statements......of all people he is probably the one with all the skeletons in his closet. He sure does not want to start running his mouth. What is so funny is that Kiffin is being used by other schools....Thompson was out of Bama after this recruiting class. You guys just did BAMA a favor by taking him. Oh and where did you finish up in recruiting rankings???

Yes I am including him in that. People are just so dang sensitve on both sides. Its one thing to hype up players, another to make youself look like a ass in front of the entire nation. I do not believe Kiffin knew this would get blown up like it has. I am still in shock at how much LSU/BAMA/FLORIDA fans are being completely irrational. They all have been beating us (dont play LSU much) so you would think they wouldn't be worrying.

I'm sure the majority of programs in Division I do things such as this, but they just go unnoticed as long as nobody abuses it, like Kelvin Sampson did. Then again, for Tennessee, there is no rule in being competitive.

I just find it odd how Lane Kiffin is stepping on EVERYONE'S feet, and he's yet to play a game in the SEC. He'll either find out the hard way, or will look really smart. For my sake, I hope he looks as dumb as can be.

Congrats on signing day, Vol fans. Hope you enjoy Nu'Keese and Marsalis.

When a new kid walks onto a tough playground... sometimes the smartest thing he can do is pick a fight with the two biggest bullies there. That's what Kiffin is doing.

Plus the message to the team has to be loud and clear... we aren't playing scared any more. Fulmer was always psyched out by UF and Saban. The team reflected that.

Kiffin just told his players, "They may be better than us but we're finished rolling over for them."

Heard this one:
Ten young bulls were standing in a pasture with a bunch of cows. A truck pulls up and unloads two big studs that proceed to start breeding the cows. Nine of the young bulls cowered over in a corner. One young bull began to snort and paw to the shock of the others. They yelled out, "What are you doing, you're no match for those guys?" He responds, "I know... but I want to make sure they know I'm a bull too."

CLK looks like he's going to put up a fight rather than just lying there and taking it.

No one is worried, but we as in LSU/Fla/Bama/Ga had to listen to all the crap coming out of Knoxville in the Fulmer era.......so I guess UcheaT is getting what they deserve. Wanna see a program explode....wait til Kiffin starts getting his butt handed to him on the field. Wait til he starts running his piehole after that.

Kiffin has been here 2 months...wait till he has a full year to recruit.

Why do you think Thompson was out? He was 2007 Recruiter of the year and was responsible for most of Bama's recruits this year. Your a idiot if you think otherwise

UcheaT...haha thats funny. Did a middle schooler tell you that?

What makes you believe Kiffin will do any worse that Fulmer? Does it scare you that some swagger is back in Knoxville?

Point is, nobody will know anything until this fall. It will be a good season, and I am glad to know that other teams are circling TN on their calender again. I am sure neither Urban Meyer or Lane Kiffin is losing any sleep over this.

What in the hell are you talking about?

This post is very confusing, I know we here at volnation have our fair share of mental invalids but if these trolls are any indication of the intellect of other teams fan bases then volnations worst would be smartest guy in the state.

I would consider contacting a player in the middle of a campus visit to another school way beyond classless. If anything, this whole mess sheds light on just how despicable some coaches are when it comes to the acquisition of talent.

I hope Kiffin doesn't apologize, and if he is forced to I hope he only apologizes for calling the situation out in public before privately confronting Meyer about it.

This shouldn't necessarily be a rule change, but it is definitely unethical.

Pissing Meyer off or not, you still would've demolished UGA b/c they were that overrated. If we lose next year, at least we will have pissed off Meyer in the process. That is worth more to me than you can imagine, which tells you the state of our program for the past 8 years.

I felt like this was a game that Georgia could have won, or at least been much more competitive in, if their kicker hadn't missed two field goals in the first half. They had contained the Florida offense for the most part, and I think those two field goal misses kind've demoralized the defense.

We're talking about a game that could have been 14-9 at the half. Had Stafford not thrown that INT, Georgia was driving very well. So there's a good chance they could have scored if the game was 14-9... not saying UGA would've won, but it would have been a lot closer.

I don't think this is going to get in Florida's head. They're too disciplined. Urban will laugh it off, and do the talking on the field.

Can someone clear this up for me. IS TEXTING A RECRUIT A VIOLATION? Unless I misread it, this article says it was banned by the NCAA two years ago.

I think it was banned, but then there was such a backlash about it they turned around a month later and repealed the ban.

Okay, I see. What about the one call per week. If Meyer was calling over and over, This should be investigated.

Purdue Handbook States:

Interpretation:
NCAA Division I institutions should note that pursuant to NCAA Bylaw 13.1.3.1, telephone calls to prospective
student-athletes are limited generally to one call per week. In accordance with Bylaw 13.1.3.1.6, once the limit
on permissible calls has been reached, an institution is prohibited from initiating another call during that same
time period, regardless of whether direct conversation occurs during the additional call. Therefore, once a
coach has made the permissible number of calls to a prospective student-athlete during a particular time period,
the coach is not permitted to leave a voice message or have direct communication with the prospective studentathlete
regardless of the length of the message or conversation.
Further, institutions should note that in determining whether a telephone call is countable, the institution must
consider the content of the call and not necessarily the duration of the call, as the legislation does not specify a
duration at which a call is considered countable. For example, if a coach calls a prospective student-athlete and
is told the prospective student-athlete is unavailable, the call is not countable provided the coach ends the
conversation without discussion of recruitment. However, if a coach calls a prospective student-athlete and is
told the prospective student-athlete is unavailable, but the coach leaves a message regarding the merits of the
program, the call is countable as recruitment has occurred regardless of the length of the call. Further, the use
of automated or prerecorded voice messaging services by institutions is considered a countable call. Therefore,
if a coach uses an automated or prerecorded voice messaging service to call prospective student-athletes and
the voice messaging service leaves a message for a prospective student-athlete, the call is countable

Apparently Texting is still a no-no in 2008

More: All other electronically transmitted correspondence including, but not
limited to, text messaging, Instant Messenger, chat rooms or message boards (e.g., a user's wall) within a
social networking Web site or through other services or applications remain impermissible.

Sorry to bring up this old thread, it is just funny that everyone just accepted that Urban had done nothing wrong so quickly when this story was big. It was like "No questions asked"
