Kickoff Music

you have to market to your audience. For the vast majority of alumni who are the bread and butter of seats in Neyland, they did not grow up in this cRap generation. Playing it, even for 10 seconds, alienates them for the sake of 11 guys on the field. In this economy we have as well as the product we're putting on the field right now, the last thing UT needs is a reason for a season ticket holder to not buy.

IF 10 seconds of music makes you not buy tickets....peace! I will also be willing to be you are of the group who complains about people who stand up the majority of the game.

Half serious ideas.

1. Considering all this program and team has endured, perhaps this year only intro should be: Ginslinge5r by Avenged Sevenfold
2. 2012 with Bray's monicker of Slinging Slim being pretty real by then, perhaps the old western theme of: Have Gun Will Travel

DING DING DING! Exactly. I would bet everything I own and ever will own he's that guy. They go to the game and sit there like its a movie or something. They have no clue what noise does to effect the other team and how much it really helps our defense. They just sit there and complain the whole time. Ridiculous.

I sat on the last row of the student section for the UT-Martin game last year and had two couples (one young, one old) complain the whole time and keep telling me to sit down. I was respectful the whole time but shared that it's the student section, and even if I sat down, there were fifty rows of students in front of me standing who I wouldn't be able to see over. These people were UT fans to boot.

Stuff like that kills me. They went and explained the situation to an usher who laughed at them and said 'tough luck.'

It wouldn't be a tradition. PLEASE GOD GO TO OTHER STADIUMS THEN BACK TO NEYLAND AND TELL ME YOU STILL WANT MUSIC

Yes I do. I've been to countless college stadiums and countless NFL stadiums. The music gets fans pumped up.

did you go to Neyland in the 90's (or before our current downturn)? Did it need music to pump people up?

and wouldn't "countless" imply there are more than 32 NFL stadiums?

I like Rock Lobster but that's not you'd really call a get-you-pumped-up song.

I am suprised no one has suggested some country song sing country music is the disco of the 90s/00s

Not really country in my book...but the first 35 secs or so of Chris LeDoux's 8 second ride would be awesome as well!!!

....and that's why youre not in marketing. You dont shove something into a consumers face with the attitude of 'take it or leave it' because they'll walk away from you in a heartbeat leaving the look on your face of 'what happened??" Selling a product is about creating a demand not forcing a product down someone's throat. Take a marketing class.

Or you can take a class on team loyalty. The Vols aren't some Arena football league team or a frickin Nascar race. The Vols fans I know live and die with the team. When we win you can't wipe the smile off of our faces and when we lose don't even mention the game until Tuesday because we don't want to talk or even think about it. Your what's wrong with Neyland stadium and the part of our fan base I cant stand. Sure you donate your money and you go to the games but you view it as a right and not a privilege. I feel it's a gift from god that my Aunt brought me Tennessee Football. Most of my family is from Alabama and bleed Crimson Red. Do you know how bad that would have sucked yelling Roll Tide my entire life. I know without a shadow of a doubt that I am lucky to get to spend my days on Earth cheering for the Big orange.

To say that your dislike for rap music would turn you away and make you not want to buy your tickets disgust me. The fact that you have them disgust me. Just because you paid for them doesn't mean you deserve them. REAL VOLS fans wouldn't care if they decided to play Hannah Montana at Kickoff because they are there to cheer their boys on and that's all they care about. Marketing? give me a break. Since when did Vols football become just family entertainment like a movie or theme park to you? The day we have to worry choosing the right gameday activities or music to get people to show up at Neyland Stadium is a sad day. Thankfully for the University, the team, and the rest of Big orange nation you are in the minority. I love the Vols and I don't give a damn what music they play I'd just feel blessed to be in the stadium watching the team play. Turn in your Vols card bro. Let a real Vols fan sit in your seat!

Yawn.

Boy, you're showing your age. It isnt about "loyality", it isnt about "getting up for the game", its about money. Nothing more, nothing less. The UTAD puts on a football game to earn money which they get from butts in seats. When butts dont come in (for whatever reason) they fail. Football is the product, the fans are consumers. There's a market for it and the consumers have other things to spend their hard earned money on, loyal or not.

When you grow up you'll understand. Stay in school and get your degree. You need it badly.

And your showing yours. You think that just because you decide not to show up or make your donation that there aren't thousands waiting in line that will. Your sense of entitlement is hilarious. Do us a favor don't get your tix next year and see how long before someone else does. And don't preach to me I know it's about money. I'm a former business owner, not some snot nosed kid. My point is this isn't the NFL. There is a nation of Vols fans that LOVE the vols. Your just not one of them.

10 seconds of kickoff music is not going to affect how many "butts in seats" there are. If you're stupid enough to get offended by kickoff music, someone else will replace you. It's that simple.

WOW, you can tell that Baseball, chick soccer and chick basketball are all that's out there right now. Sure is alot of venom being spewed over intro music.

On of the things I personally like about Tennessee is that our band does a great job of pumping up the crowd. If it aint broke don't fix it.

Now with that said, A little rock, rap, country, whatever thrown in during a game wouldn't keep me from coming and might be a little endearing to the younger generation of fan. With that said, I am just pumped to know that there is only about 49 days til kick off! GO VOLS, GO BIG ORANGE!

The product will sell itself when the team starts winning. Music at the kickoff will only bother a select few who look for things to complain about like yourself. Ticket sales won't be affected by a little rap music. Get over yourself.

I was going to games at Neyland in the 1970's, 1980's, 1990's, 2000's, and 2010's.

Are fans have a stick stuck up their butts and are anal retentive to the point they sit in their seat and complain about those who do stand up and cheer.

Fans are the same anywhere. There great when there winning and not so great when there not.

Times change. Tennessee needs kickoff music. It fires up players and fans and makes for a great atmosphere to start the game. How the game goes determines if it stays great. If you stay status quo for to long, then others will pass you up.

I am more of a "traditionalist" than most anyone on here...but this pretty much sums up the state of our football program in a nutshell...GREAT POST!!!
