Noble's passion to kick may lead to college team at 28

Georgetown College men's soccer assistant Nathan Noble has been creating a buzz recently over his contemplation on trying to kick for a college football team. The 28-year-old Versailles native served his country on multiple tours after high school and enrolled at University of Kentucky in 2009, giving him one year of NCAA eligibility left.

He began practicing on the Tigers' new iHigh Field this past fall and has received interest from several colleges around the country. He most recently tried out for a school out West and the military veteran nailed a 70-yarder that day.

Consistently makes from 55 yards

Hopefully he gets his chance. However, it is another thing to kick with pressure and on game day. I think some smaller school will give him a shot.

If he could consistently hit 55 yarders an NFL team would pick him up. You kick the same on all levels.

Kicking game is one of my biggest frustrations with Dooley.

We are wasting 2 scholarships on kickers right now. Really 3 if you consider that the one guy doing all the work regularly shanks punts, misses short kicks, and drives kick offs out of bounds.

Vols didn't always give schollies to kickers...most were walk-ons who were terrific. Of course, with the coming of the Colquitts, that changed. No excuses for the incosistency of UT's kicking game over the past 10 years.

I'm not referring to the fans, I am referring to the game action. When someone has to snap and hold it perfect while you have a ton of guys rushing you to block it, it is different than just kicking on an open field. I know what you mean though and I agree the military should prepare you for anything just saying it won't be easy to get big schools to offer you.

Agreed. You'd think with them playing in a stadium named after the man responsible for the modern day kicking game, that we wouldn't have this as an issue. Too bad Colquitt #5 didn't come to play for us.

We need a kicker who has the mental fortitude to step up and make kicks. Dunno if this dude is the answer, but that's what we need.

Agreed. James Wilhoit rings a bell. I was in Neyland that game against Florida when he missed the PAT and then had the stones to come back and hit a 50 yarder to win. Loudest I've ever heard Neyland.
