Kick Returner

LOL, I would like to see Desmond Howard but anyone know who the coaches are going to put back there? Who did they have in spring?

I don't know why Gerald Jones would be a kickoff returner. He didn't do it at all last year (maybe once or twice) and he is much more a shifty type runner versus straight line speed which is why he is a better choice to return punts.

Eric Gordon was also a great returner in HS, but I think it will be Nuke and Rogan (if he's eligible). GJ will be back there once he's fully healthy, maybe by the Florida game.

I think that we have plenty of options here. Jones is fine with his open field running skills, but I would be shocked if Berry isn't back there on KO or punt returns. Kiffin has already said that he won't be playing offense so he will need some way of gettign the ball in his hands more often. The way to do that is in the kicking game.

Thats a good point. If we weren't promoting EB for heisman, I would say no way... but since we are, it will take highlights. And what better way than returning punts / kicks for TDs?

on ncaa 2010 teague is the only 1 that has returned kickoffs for tds. nuke has been close. use EB on punt returns but no tds yet.

I'd have Eric Berry do it, if he is the best returner we have and he wants to. I would, unlike most players, give him a clear choice... in regards to his potential health relative to his massive future potential. He did return two kickoffs last year.

Gerald Jones did return a couple of kickoffs last year, and did ok... Denarius Moore would be a good choice when he returns to full health.

I do say that the shiftiness of Berry and Jones are more conducive to returning punts, whereas pure north/south speed are more important for kickoff returns.

Early on I thought Nuke or maye Oku, but now with all the Heisman hype I think it will be EB on punts.

EB not on punts. Too many headhunters would try to hurt him. He'd be more likely on KO's than anything, if even that. I wouldnt take the risk.

People forget that it's a good deal different running between and through offensive players trying to tackle you (in the case of an INT) and those who practice tackling day in and day out.
