Key to Season = Beat Florida

On that particular day in Knoxville, that was a bad UF team. As bad as I've ever seen from the Gators.

Looked like the Gators of old in the 4th quarter, though.

I really couldn't believe how badly Butch/Jake called that game. I think he really believed we were going to win 9-0 or 12-0. Otherwise he would have gone for it on 4th in the red zone at least once or twice.

Even if Worley hadn't been strip sacked and we took a 12-0 lead into the 4th quarter, UF could have gotten back in it so easily with a couple big plays. That's just not a big enough lead to sit on.

Pathetic. The defeatist attitude suits you well.

Pound sand. I believe we have a chance to beat anybody on our schedule this year, including Alabama. Just not Florida. And why?..... Because your posts clearly portray you as not the sharpest knife in the drawer, I'll tell you and I'll try to use small words so that you can maybe understand.....its because we never do...

Sure fans like you were saying the same thing during the offseason of 1995.

Repeat for the VOLS 20 years later in the Swamp.

Nope, wasn't saying it in 1995 because we hadn't lost the previous 10 straight years and 23 of 29. We had just won 2 of the last 5. Btw, we went on to lose TO FLORIDA in 1995, 1996, and 1997.

Finally, my "defeatist" (I prefer realistic) attitude ONLY applies to Florida...not Bama or any other school. JUST FLORIDA.

Typically your posts are very good except when mentionng Florida. I get it. You cannot believe we can beat UF until we do. It doesn't matter if we haven't beaten a team in forever. Every season is different and blindly saying we will lose to UF just shows silliness on your part. So by all means continue your defeatist attitude. I for one think we will beat UF. Could I be wrong?

My father always had Bama. I have Florida. I still remember the 1995 Bama game and how that ended. Would love to see that game repeated with Florida!

Every season IS different, with the exception of the Florida game. You wanna call it a defeatist attitude, then fine, you're right. At some level it's both defeatist and irrational. But on another level, it's grounded in statistical evidence and is the only position that makes any sense.....and it certainly makes more sense than some idiots on here blindly saying "we're gon whip dat Gator azz down in da Swamp this year". Based on what??

There's a valid reason for my stance on the Florida game. We've lost 8 in a row vs Bama and 5 in a row vs Georgia, yet I don't have a similar "defeatist" attitude about them...why? Because despite those losing streaks, I've witnessed Tennessee actually be able to beat those teams and rattle off 4,5, 7 game win streaks of their own over the last 4 decades....I've not seen that with Florida, it just hasn't hsppened, and after seeing that horrific, inexcusable loss vs the worst Florida team in my lifetime last year.....after seeing 10 straight losses, 18 of 22 and 23 of 29, there's no way I'm picking a Tennessee win. I don't see any right thinking person could.

Yes. It's that bad!

One of the most beloved Vol teams of all time, the 1985 team, guess who they lost to....you got it, UF!

It's not even a rivalry in their eyes because UF has fans that are your age that have no idea what it's like to lose to UT. It's sad, really sad.

All I could do after last season's game was roll my eyes and laugh.

Yeah...up 9-0 and still waiting to lose. We all knew it would happen while watching that game. I was sick at my stomach, seriously. Can't stand the f%$%^# gators.

KBVol is simply stating the facts. The Florida game has been handed to the Vols on silver platters so many times, only for us the f#$% around and give it away. Just like Vandy played us tight at times prior to this last decade of crappy football, we always knew we were still going to win. Florida views us the same way. Even when we had a great football team they'd still beat us 62-37, 31-0, or 59-20. Meanwhile we beat them 20-17 on a missed FG, 30-28, etc.

Hell, the game we all hail as the year we "whipped florida" when TS ran all over them we only won by 2 damn points. I'm not complaining about a win because its a win, I'm just saying they have owned UT football by a large margin for so long it's easy to feel like this one is never going to flip in our favor.

I have a friend that's a Baylor fan. For years he always talked about how they couldn't beat OU. Even after 2011 he said "we had a Heisman QB and it took 2 miracle TD's to win." I kept pointing out that Baylor was improving every year. He just said they were cursed after 2012. Now 2 years later, BU has won by a combined 89-26.

Baylor was never cursed, they just didn't have the player talent or coaching consistency to win. Once their talent got better, and OU's coaching got worse, BU laid the wood down on them.

Look at the similarities, our talent is improving, our coaching is stable, our recruiting is better. When the teams take the field it's UT that has the play maker at QB. UT has the playmakers at DE. UT has the playmakers at WR. UT has the edge in this one

Big difference in the games though. I was in the Swamp in 2001. Florida fans knew we had whipped them when the game was over. Spurrier said in his interview not to look at the scoreboard, because it wasn't a true indicator of how bad they lost.

Last years game.......Florida did not whip us. They did win though.

Which was pathetic, because it was absolutely the worst I have seen a Florida team play in forever.

blah, blah, blah, I hate this thread. Its just a game! Just another SEC game! Fulmer's hatred of Blurrier turned this game into a choke fest. Before 1991, UT was 15-7 vs Florida. Since 1991, Florida is 18-4.

If Tennessee would just go out a play this game and not get all bent, they probably would have won 3, maybe 6 more games during this time span...including last year! IT would be funny but Im a Vol.

Fulmer and Spurrier are close friends. Just sayin.

I did not believe in any of the hocus/pocus stuff until the last two seasons.

By and large, I believe Florida has had the better team.

But, in 2013, I saw a gift pick 6. I saw a fumbled punt snap. I saw a player tackle his own teammate on a would be pick six. I saw a snap fumbled after hitting the QB in the face. And with all of that, tennessee managed to be more inept.

In 2014, on the road mind you, I saw Florida not even come close to scoring for 3 quarters. I saw them provide room service field position time and again inside the red zone. I saw a team that literally had no idea what the forward pass was all about. And they still won the game.

After last season, I am believer in all the voodoo stuff. Just no other explanation

Voodoo hoodoo, the voodoo is broken this year, and is forever gone. Florida will win against Tennessee again some years, hopefully not for the next few at least, but they will win from time to time. But the voodoo goes away with Team 119's arrival. Bank on it.

Bleacher report has us going 10-2, only losses coming to Alabama and Florida. I think we beat the gators then lose to Alabama, making us 11-1.

I'm not sure about 11-1. I think if we lose another game aside from Alabama it would be Arkansas or Georgia. Georgia is going to be a good football team this year. I'm thinking 9-3

I don't care if we're up three touchdowns with 10 seconds to go, we would probably still lose to the Gators. This game is 99.9% mental and we gotta get over this damn hump.

Recently, I've been hoping someone prayed before Wilhoit's game-winning FG that if he made it, UF could win the next 10 in a row, and that the prayer was answered. It's the way I make myself feel better about the apparently unexplainable phenomena that you mentioned in your post; thinking that the 10 years in the wilderness is now over.

well i found my post from way back where i said we'd be competitive w/UF for the forseeable future..7 years later.....i hate it when people dig these things up!
