Kevin Steele & Rodney Garner on Pruitt’s Radar

I could see it if they get a 2 year contract. Worst case if Pruitt and staff gets fired after 1 year and they still get paid for the 2nd. Prob similar to the situation they are in now.
Par for the course around these parts.
GBO!!

Have you been to Auburn?

Yes I have. Not the greatest place in the world, IMO, but not the worst either. But the point I was making was since his wife hated it here, she liked being in Auburn because it isn't Knoxville. Not my opinion, but obviously hers.

That I know....but like the Kiffin hire was supposed to do....we need a hire that pumps energy and life into a dead program. Cutcliffe would be like hiring back Mack Brown without the NC under his belt. He’d probably get us to 8 wins or so...nice. But how to expand/recruit on that and win the East? He’d have to have a staff like Saban to do so.

They ain’t hiring Cutcliffe. That’s Roy poking the Volnation

At this rate we should keep him and try our best to hire the best available assistant coaches out there to hopefully turn this ship around.

Don't really trust our administration to make a great hire anyway.

did you watch any of the games? Vols didn’t just lose, they took a$$ whoopins week in and out. GA, FL, and Bama treated them like practice games. The product I saw on the field looked like hot crap. Couldn’t stop anyone on defense and couldn’t score on offense, both units were equally terrible. Didn’t see any cohesion of any particular unit on either side of the ball. This team flat out got punked in a regular basis.
I agree with you, this season was very disappointing...but to say sinking ship is extreme...2019 showed a lot of promise, 2020 was a major letdown, if 2021 goes like 2020 did then I’ll agree a change needs to be made but we as a fan base have to stop wanting a
CS every 3 years...it’s ignorant thinking...give the man some time...after year 4 if no progress is shown then make the move...at least let a cycle of his recruits graduate out for Christ sake...his first year of recruits will be seniors in 2021 lol....

The best defensive coach hire now available is Muschamp if his pride and buyout terms would allow him to accept the job. He's a bona fide recruiter and motivator, along with being a crappy head coach.......the waters are a bit murky at TN at the moment, so it's not likely that a top recruiter or DC would even be interested.......Steele is overrated and overpaid; he either can't or won't recruit. R. Garner is a great recruiter but not as good with the Xs and Os.

.

Over the past 55+ years Tennessee has only had a coaching search after just 3 years of a coach, just ONE time (by their own choice..twice total).

not knowing this, as a Tennessee fan is ignorant.

Please stop with the fake “every 3 years” crap.

But but he bleeds orange
That was the story when Garner left and went to Georgia. Don’t know if true or more money or personalities were involved. I do know he was a great recruiter here and Fulmer’s decline began when he left. He was thought to recruit on the edge, but I don’t recall any major issues. I assume he is an adequate def. line coach. Hiring Garner would be a good move IMO. I’m not sure on Steele. Doubt our defense could look worse.

Garner’s wife would probably not let him come back to Knoxville. It was said that she hated it here before. I do not see an advantage in hiring Steele. He is average at best.

average is better than what was produced by tennessee's defense this year

Garner was the tight ends coach at Tennessee, but wanted a higher profile position coaching on the defensive side of the ball. The opportunity to coach defensive line and more money was the driving factor to Georgia.

Well he definitely believes what he types....so confident in full blown ignorance...funny yet sad at the same time.

Fighting govt funded organizations in court is the definition of eternity. They'll bleed Pruitt dry in legal fees.

That is just not true about the Georgia game. It's a 23-21 game through almost 3 quarters.
Truth of the matter is if UT beats Kentucky like they should have and beats Arkansas, then there would be a lot less angst right now.
