Kevin Steele for LB Coach?

Dare I say it? With Steele at LB coach could we have the best ASSISTANT coaching staff in the SEC? It would at least be debatable.

Scott Gaylon for LB coach.

He could teach our LB how to be slow in the SEC, but still look like you're making tackles by piling on at the end of the play.

Steele has coached both in the 3-4 and 4-3 schemes. He is one of the best LB coaches in the entire country. Trev Alberts credits Steele for much of his success at Nebraska.

He coached the secondary his first stint with UT. Sanseri probably takes LBs. I would love to see him take over the DBs and Joseph to be moved into some administrative position. Beast of a recruiter.

It's true, Brice said it in a video that Brice, Hubbs and Fortenberry made recapping the new coaching hires, recruiting, etc..

That would definitely put to rest the Dooley won't hire competent coaches nonsense because he's insecure about his HC position.

Even better, our staff would have to be the best recruiting staff in the nation...and I'm not trying to be a Tennessee homer either.

If only we could get Tosh Lupoi it and Mike Bobo, lol.

(I wouldn't mind a Bobo for Chaney switch)

Administrative assistants can't be on road recruiters. Joseph MUST stay on staff.

Steele is 100 times the recruiter as Joseph. It would be an upgrade in both areas. This is not a knock on Joseph's recruiting. It's how impressive Steele is as a recruiter. Joseph can still be involved in some way. I have a buddy that is TX Tech's liason to high schools. I would like to see Joseph in the same role. He is a decent recruiter, but I am not convinced he is a good coach. Jmo.

Lance Thompson is our guy! We don't want Kevin '70 points Steele' here.

Thompson is the DL coach. Steele can coach DBs. Steele is also rated as a better recruiter. I would agree if we were talking DC. However, he will not be making the defensive calls. Not being an ass, but you don't know what you are talking about if you don't want Steele on staff in a non-coordinator aspect. He is a 5* recruiter.

It seems we have a universal K Steele love fest going on here. Please allow me to offer a totally different opinion.

Steele is not going to be hired by Dooley -- not two weeks ago, not now, not ever. Furthermore, he was never under serious consideration for the DC spot over the past two weeks.

Two years ago, Dooley offered Steele the DC position and he accepted it. Then, at the last second, he changed his mind and stayed at Clemson -- the whole idea was for him to get a raise out of Clemson and it worked. Fool Dooley once, shame on you -- but you ain't gonna get another chance.

Dooley got some subtle but satisfying payback this time around. He never had the slightest intention of hiring Steele but he dangled the DC bait just enough to get Steele to nibble at it, then pulled it away permanently -- the opposite of two years ago. Paybacks are hell, and Steele got his payback from Dooley, causing the roof to cave in on Steele. Out of greed, he went to the well one time too many and it cost him dearly.

He may prove me wrong, but I believe Steele will never work under Dooley in any capacity, for any amount of money. I doubt Dooley would hire him as a $1 a year man. Steele burned that bridge two years ago and received his payback over the past week.

Correct. It has been rumored that Steele has mental breakdowns during big games. That is EVERY game for Tennessee. Personally, if his breakdowns are health related (which have also been rumored), he really needs to care for those.

Yes he is a great recruiter and better than TJ but there is no reason they both can't be on staff.

SS- DC
LT-DL
KS-LB
TJ-Sec

I am not sure why it has to be either or.

TJ is going to be on staff and darn sure deserves to be so.

Sounds like cutting your nose off to spite your face. Steele would be a position coach. He won't be calling defenses. Dooley knows whether or not his job is on the line this or next season from his meetings with Hart. If it is, you don't turn away a guy with the recruiting prowess of Steele just so you can say 'got ya back! Nanny nanny boo boo!' You bring in the best possible to save your job.

That would be fine with me.

My response to you about the administrative assistant thing was just to point out that TJ couldn't use his best talent he brings. Recruiting is his gift from the seat I am watching from and I am very pleased with the job he is doing. He is too valuable as RC to move him to an office job.

I have been a huge supporter of KS throughout this ordeal and would support him for DC if the medical issues hadn't surfaced.

I wasn't too keen on him as DC, but given recent events, I would take him in a heartbeat as a position coach. The guy is just amazing with recruits.
